Track Day at Donington Park

Had a great day yesterday at Donington Park - took the Scooby for it's first outing and was thoroughly impressed with it and all work done so far.

The car felt structurally rigid, which I think the full roll cage with door bars provides! Handling was great. It started off as a cold, dull, wet morning so was running on the normal alloys with road tyres. By lunchtime however, it was lovely and sunny! Track had dried out so popped on the lighter alloys with Toyo R888 track tyres Boy did the car handle with these babies on!! Was going flat thru Kramer Curves and the thing was awesome. Keeping up with an Escort Cossie for a while and also a (poorly driven) RS4.

There was a wide range of cars out on track. Many were the usual hot hatch brigade and Westfields. Not much exotica except for a lovely GT3 that was being driven under instruction.

Some pics.......

My fave pic with my mate driving....

Infield still a mud-bath - such a shame

Wet in the morning - track starting to dry tho'

R888's fitted

My Garage Mate fully stripped 318is -went well!

1 series with performance stoppers - anyone on here??

Lovely GT3 RS

Nice 'Turbo

Some nice E46 M3's

Awesome Lotus 11-2 - cornered like it was on rails

Ex Clio-Cup works car - LHD and sequential box - could drive around other cars on the corners - so fast - went out with him at Oulton Park - the thing defies physics!!

I loved this Cossie - sounded awesome and very tail happy

The only disappointment of the day was how bad the circuit looks The infield is pretty much a mud bath with JCB's trying to smooth it back over. The track is in good condition but you can see now why it was still a million miles away from ever becoming a serious F1 contender.

Looking forward to doing another day there though!

Pics are great, the scoob looks like a great track-toy. I love donno park to bits and wish the british GP had gone to Donno and not stayed at Silverstone. Craner curves are amazing!

The Saff cossie looks great! I think I recognise it

I was there too in the MINI - on Kumho V70A Tyres - was worried about the rain initially but was glad it dried up later.

Was a very good day. Would have known who you were if you were in the M3!

Bugger, I would have said hello if I had known it was you - we were checking the Mini out as well, it was going well!

Would have been interesting to do a lap following each other.

+1 about the rain, the top of the track especially after Craner was sooooo slippy!! Even with 4wd still drifted a few times and watched and M3 get proper out of shape!

Thats why I bought the Scoob Rog, less £'s to risk but just the same fun!

Awesome tyres Marcus, could not believe the grip in the dry! The normal road tyres had started to squeal like a pig in a slaughterhouse but these remained quiet and just gripped and gripped. The road noise took some getting used to - droned that much I thought the diff had gone

I thought the same about the Cossie Carl - it has defo been high profile at some time - the guy was having great fun in it, and was very quick!

I think the Scoob is a great all rounder. Enough power to have some fun but at a reasonable expense. Was getting 120mph before the chicane which was good

Having track tyres makes a huge difference. Our MINI kept on gripping to. it did a lot better than we expected and we haven't even sorted the suspension properly. I got frustrated with the BMW's that wouldn't move out of the way because there was no way a MINI was faster than them lol

I really like Donnington. Can't wait to get back there again.

I don't think we spent much time on track together Will - wished I had know as it is fun trying to compare cars. Ok when you know the person and know they are not gonna do anything silly. I was trying to benchmark against a few car but they either start trying too hard to not let you past (even though you don't wanna go past!!) or just pull over and indicate to invite you past them. My mate had fun with the RS4 'cos he was really trying quite hard and couldn't shake the Scoob' off at all - think it was poorly driven though 'cos should have left the Scoob' for dead!

I'm very jealous Paul, I'd love a track car, you make it look such a great pursuit

Pics are great, and that E46 M3 looks well mean.

cheers Ian, it's great fun and if you can ever justify spending a few grand I really recommend it. It takes all the worry over tracking your expensive everyday car! Me and a mate own it half each so it keeps costs down. The day at Donington inc extra driver and a garage is under £200 so good value IMO.

Did about 250 miles yesterday, so about 100 laps between us!

We will probably do Oulton Park so see you there, Will bring the e46 M3 as well so when people don't let me pass in the MINI I'll chase them with the M3!

Love Donny though so will be up for another day there this year.
