Oil Pan Gasket Leak

Hey guys,

I've been topping off about a quart of oil every 2-3 weeks now and I've just been notified that my oil pan gasket is leaking. Quoted me $575 including a fresh oil change.

No oil spots, smells, smoke or anything that would compel me to repair it on the spot. Would you guys classify this as an urgent repair or would you just keep topping it off like I've been doing?

Are you sure that it is the oil pan gasket and not the oil filter housing gasket? That is a much more common leak and it runs down onto the oil pan giving the appearance of a pan leak. Look under your intake manifold near the housing with a flashlight and see if you can see oil there. There will be a lot.

I also say recheck what they said - 575 to replace an oil pan gasket is super cheap!

It's likely they said oil filter housing gasket, in which case if you have the oil cooler have them also replace oil tstat gasket and oil line orings.

If it's $575 and in fact the oil pan gasket, then do it!

oil pan gasket replacement cant be $575 ... sounds more like valve cover gasket ... check the engine to see oil seepage or underneath, if its valve cover the gasket is $40 and dIY available on here

Oil pan gasket is more like $900 job. The fact that your topping off every 2-3 weeks means what ever it is you need to get fixed asap.

575 is too good to pass up for an oil pan gasket change. I was quoted 1300 at the dealer and 1200 at my indy shop. Looks like I will be tackling this the next time i work on my car.
