Rogue IKON vs Magnaflow 14815
So for the last few days i have been contemplating on which of these 2 mufflers to get. I have read numerous posts on the forums and searched as far back as 2006 and i am hearing good and bad things about both. Well for one last time i would like everyone's opinion on these 2 choices. I only plan to swap my stock muffler, i am not interested in doing a muffler or resonator delete so please do not suggest these options. I am also not interested in the PE. To be honest i haven't heard these 2 mufflers on a 330i without any resonator deletes so im not 100% sure what they even sound like with a direct swap for the stock muffler.
I have come up with advantages and disadvantages for both of these, they are below. IKON: The good: seems to be better sounding, direct fit - no pipe bending required. The bad: TRIPLE the price, on some pics members posted it looks to hang a bit too low, and canister is visible from the drivers side? Magnaflow: The good: WAY cheaper, slightly nicer tips The bad: some people say there is drone on the highway, have to bend the exhaust pipe 90 degrees, the inlet is only 2.25" - is this too small for the E90 exhaust piping? I heard of possible low end torque loss. So there is a lot more negatives for the Magnalow, some of them may not be true, i am hoping to get some feedback to help me make a decision, and if you guys know of any videos with these mufflers, without resonator or cat deletes. Thank You

buy whatever you want.
Every single option for these cars is the same in terms of power. Seriously. No gains and its all for sound. Buy what looks and sounds nice and fits your budget. |

I have the magnaflow 16539 for my 2006 330i. It has a wonderful deep sound, it sounds a lot like a 335i at startup, and it has zero drone. I dont agree about power gains, i dynod at 209whp with the exhaust. You can definitely feel a small power increase on the n52 from the full catback atleast. As you can probably tell i love mine and i would highly recommend it. Never heard anything about the Ikon. The tips that come on it are really nice as well since magnaflow custom makes them for the system.

Theres no way i would say i experienced low end torque loss. Dyno supports the opposite claim, an increase in torque througout the range.

Shop had no problems installing, and seriously there is NO DRONE its freaking awesome, its deep as you push the pedal and as soon as you ease off a bit the sound dissapears at cruising speed.

I used a Magnaflow 12138 that didnt come with tips. I dont know why everyone insists on the 14815. Magnaflow makes a bunch of universal mufflers in different sizes, such as ones with a 2.5" or 3" inlet.
The only good thing I guess is the 14815 comes with tips. But, IMO it's a better option to go with one without tips. Then you can have the muffler shop mount it at 45 degrees instead of having a 90 degree bend in the exhaust piping, and you can pick whatever tips you want. As far as drone, there is no drone on mine on the highway. I still have the stock cats and resonator in. Haven't noticed a change in power in either way, but I did it mainly for looks and sound.

I have a magnaflow without out cats or resonator and I have headache quality drone. I think that is where you are getting drone comments from. As stated above, people with cats and resonator are not getting any drone. You should check out the inner design of the two mufflers. Magnaflow is straight through, Rogue, Im not sure.

I have the Magnaflow 12138 on my '06 330i 6MT. Kept the resonator and added Dimisa tips. I went with that particular muffler because its the same one thats part of their full catback system. I love the sound! I was like most, just wanted to hear my car at speed, when I accelerate and i wanted a more significant growl and a bit louder and that's exactly what I got. It's a nice sound. Not too deep, and not too raspy and certainly not a civic. To me it sounds like an inline 6 should sound. I've had many compliments on the sound, including my wife
Drone? None. Can I hear it slightly when I'm cruising? Sure. But that's how a sports car should be. When I'm on road trips it's barely there. But when I get on the gas it sounds great Oh and it definitely gave the car better throttle response and torque through the whole range. Feels and pulls stronger Last edited by reubendp; 05-15-2012 at 08:56 AM.. |

Or you can get the Magnaflow cat-back for $50.00 more than the IKON muffler and not worry about welding, fitting problems or drone.
Easy DIY. great results and sound. Lou.

Well i got it installed and its way to quiet, and a little too deep. I will do the resonator delete next week, that should make it sound more raspy.

maybe u wanna wait for few more weeks to do that, most muffler need some driving in order for the packing material to set inside the muffler. it should get louder.

They had a discount when i called and i got it for $475 + shipping. Guys after i got the resonator delete the car sounds amazing. Its perfect, not too lout but not too quiet, and its got a nice racy sound to it. It gurgles nicely when shifting and downshifting especially, and it reminds me a bit of the V8 M3. The car feels like it breathes easier too and revs freer, i am beyond happy with this setup!
