Spoke to the guy selling the watch again this morning.

he said that he has done everything he can to prove its authenticity and that he is now going to hand it in to Ernest Jones, get it evaluated and then advertise the watch on Ebay for the valuation price instead of selling me it.

To my eyes, the watch looks totally genuine, but I'm not a watch fanatic so I'm not to know.

Every time I suggest going to a jewellers he seems to have an excuse not to go, which is strange.

With the 3yrs 0% finance at the high street jewellers I'm considering buying new to save me the aggro.

I think for the amount you might be saving, I'd go new and get the full warranty/piece of mind

I think your right.

The replicas are too accurate for a novice to tell the difference and in my eyes wearing a replica defeats the whole reason I want one!

you can never be too careful with the amount and quality of the fakes there are out there today. it is your hard earned cash at the end of the day and personally id rather miss the opportunity of buying this watch rather than not do everything i can to ensure that its the genuine article. if you got the money then there will always be another watch

not sure what ebay is like these days but i certainly wouldnt part with 700 quid for a watch on ebay no matter what documentation it came with even if it there was an original receipt. if you can fake a watch, how hard is a receipt!

And its 10000% genuine :-)

a) he hasn't done everything he can. He hasn't gone into an authorised Tag dealer with the ability to authenticate with you.

b) Ernest & Jones in my very limited experience with my Rado, just packed it up and sent it on it way to have the strap fixed. They wouldn't touch it in store. So not sure how good they would be at spotting a fake. I guess it depends on the store and the personnel. They coudn't even change the battery.

c) He may think you're a dreamer and tyre kicker and just got fed up. His loss again.

I think you're better walking way. Moreover, if you plan on keeping the watch for a long time, buy one new. One you want, exactly to your spec, and enjoy the fact you and only you will ever own it. And you know for sure it's 100% genuine.

Go with the new one, high street jewellers aren't the best place to go, like someones already said he won't go to a dealers witrh you so leave it.

I've narrowed my choices down to the tag carrera, omega speedmaster, or breitling superocean steelfish all of these are available on the 0% 3 yr deal.

I got my wifes from goldsmiths an omega constellation bimetal and am just coming to the end of 9 mth finance deal. You can do the finance online and print off the forms send them off and a few days later the watch arrives by courier. simple.

Let us know what you get!

Hi

If you want a TAG, there is an outlet at McArthur Glen, York. Prices are very reasonable - £1000 watches for c£650 etc.....

This is completely genuine - they are probably models that aren't selling or are due to be changed soon.

Look on the 'net.

Maybe give them a call to see what stock they have and at what price.

I have one of these... mine came in the square box too, but Defo has the window in the back.

Looks like mine in all aspects, but is a lot cleaner/shinier, but then I've had mine since 2004 and worn it a lot.
