Will be interesting to see how our lower revving diesels' curves will compare to the N54 gassers, and what that will mean for daily driving versus track experience, and at what RPM, etc.

Maybe this will require its own thread?

Cssnms, I emailed them as well. Btw I have been looking at 335i and 335d intercoolers, and those look so similar. Top 335d, bottom 335i

I'm jumping in on this thread guys. I'm heading down to RENNTech for a reflash in the next couple months and would like to entertain the idea of an intercooler upgrade as well. CP-E hopefully will do some homework on the D cooler since it looks like the differences are extremely minor making the R&D for a D specific core pretty straight forward.

DD, what is your email? I have some graphs that I'd like for you to post from Carsten. I don't have time to upload them this morning as I'm taking my car to get the suspension work done on it. This is what Carsten e-mailed me, minus the graphs:

Quote:
Hello John,

Attached you will find the Flow Comparison OEM vs. our 335d IC, based on
Pressure drop.

The test run was made with a SF-1020. We used Port Flow Analyzer 3.5 as
Software.
The Software works that way:

We have to set like 8 different target Pressure points, in that case inch
per Water. We actually converted these to PSI on the Sheet.

The Graphs also includes the Pressure drop that the Piping and the adapter
is building up.

Please note, this is the flow of the full cooler, not just the core!

The Main restriction is caused due the in and outlets. I have also attached
a CFM Flow analyses, there you can see the bottleneck.

We have seen claims from some of our competition in the past with a Pressure
drop of 0.5psi at 600-1000cfm. Something like that is just not possible,
even not if the core is fully empty.

Our goal is always to have 10-15% less Pressure drop then the OEM Unit. On
some coolers, like our Porsche intercoolers we have the same Pressure drop
as the OEM unit, but we reach 20° less IAT.

I hope that helps a little bit...

mit freundlichen Grüßen / best Regards

Carsten Wagner

Here's a little analysis from elsewhere:

Quote:
What that graph is showing is for a given pressure drop, the Wagner intercooler flows more than stock. In other words, for a given flow rate, the Wagner intercooler has less of a pressure drop. For example, at 280 CFM, the Wagner intercooler has a pressure drop of 1.44 PSI while the OEM inter cooler has a pressure drop of 1.8, 25% more than the Wagner.

2% is very small....

What is the drop of the IAT ?

Wrong. The quote has it correct, which is comparing the pressure loss for the 2 i/c's at the same flow rate, thus the comparison is valid. I'm not sure what you're computing.

Anyone tried to put these 335i or 335d wagners to 535d?

I know that it should fit there somehow, but since it's bolt-on kit with bolt-on prize it should be quite easy fitment or there is no point to ordered bolt-on kit.
It's sad that there is not bigger ic's to 535d on the market.
