320i wont start

Hi, I've had an intermittent problem starting the car of late. I put the 'key' in the dash, all the lights etc come on as normal, I press the Start button and nothing happens! If I took the key out, locked the doors, re-entered and tried again it would usually start. Sometimes I needed to do this a couple of times. But last night it just wouldn't start at all. After 1hr of trying everything I had to give up. The car is a 2005 e90 320i - could the battery in the key be going?

Maybe the battery in the car is gone.

All the lights and other electrics are still working fine. So I doubt it's the main battery. I'll replace it as a last resort. The battery was also checked by the roadside assit man last night - he said it was fine.
