My new Ipod Touch doesn't charge...any help?
I just got the new Ipod Touch and i have the Ipod integration in my e90 335i. Anyone have any ideas of why it won't charge or if there is anything i can do to make the car charge it?

WTF are you?
gloster was nice enough to try and help you out, it might not've been what you were looking for, but no need to demean his effort. Now, don't expect anyone else to help you out.

That's ok, I've got thick skin.
I know the different iPod models. The iPod touch is the latest iPod. It is similar to the IPhone, but NO PHONE. Now let's see if there are some things *you* might not know. Some folks on this forum think the iPod Touch draws more current than the older ipods. The new cable mentioned in that other thread can handle that extra current draw. So it solved the problem for my iPod Classic, has solved the problem for other iPhone and iPod Touch users on this forum and might help you. Sorry for wasting your time. |

Oh....here's a quote from the last posting in that other thread from msimon:
The skinny is thast the original Y cable brick was current limited and would not allow enough current to charge the iPod correctly. The same issue arose on the iPhone which is how they found the issue to begin with !! |

HAHA sorry guys.
A. I was definately being an A-hole on account that i had been up studying all day/all night. B. I am new the the forum and came from a 350z forum where the atmosphere was a little more sarcastic C. The reason that 350z forum was sarastic is because 350z's and G35c's are a dime a dozen so there are like 9,999,999 newbies that will just post without reading questions. I had already read the first page of that thread and thought it was only about Ipod classic so when gloster linked me to it i was just like "great, this thread again" So once again, Sorry gloster, you are definately MUCH more informed than i originally (in my a-hole/arrogant state) had thought. I guess you have my solution and i should go over to BMW to get this new cable. Thanks. Other forum members i will be much more nice next time

Parsh sent me a PM too saying he was sorry for coming across so harsh.
As I PM'd back: we all know things can come across a lot more harsh when you read them than they were meant. No big deal. Welcome to e90!!!!! |

My iPod touch works fine and charges in my car. I have the Ipod integration as well. Not sure what the issue is but it should charge.

So i visited my local BMW dealership to get the new Ipod cable for my ipod touch and it was a bad experience.
1. They told me to go to service. Service told me to go to parts. Parts told me to go back to service at which point i informed them that parts to me to come to them...they did not seem to know what to do. 2. The RECEPTIONIST teamed up with the service manager against me like she was some 335i ipod guru. The service manager claimed that he had heard of no such problems, that my ipod probably had a problem (he had no idea what an ipod touch was btw), and that if i wanted them to provide me with any fixes i would need a print-out from the forum and that may still not be enough credibility, etc. 3. He told me that the ipod system does not charge the ipod. Is this true? The poster above me claims his ipod touch charges. I also have a nano that seems to be charging when i have it plugged in. I proceded to dumb down the y adaptor to the service manager - "This is the usb which provides power and interfaces with the ipod. this is the auxilary cable that provides the sound to the speakers." He didn't get it. Is the usb only for providing the computer data to display the ipod information to the head unit? Edit: after finding a pic of the old Y adaptor i realized i have the newer adaptor. Apparently my next step should be to make an appointment for the update to 27.x, whatever that is lol.

Harsh. My dealership was more polite, but almost as difficult. They told me the two cables were identical, but with enough begging I got them to "humor me". Well, the new cable did solve the problem for me. I do not have iDrive, so there is no Progman 27.x update for me.
Since I don't have iDrive, I'm no expert. But I suspect the update might help you. I can definitely confirm the 6FL does charge the iPod. My iPod only ever gets charged in my car. If it doesn't charge the iPod, I have found the secret to unlimited free energy!!!! My iPod battery will save humankind |

Wow you guys definitely weren't at my workplace.
I actually was the first person to bring up this issue at work. The newest 6FL cable solved my problems. |
