Why is there no 335xd?
I have been told by a BMW sales person that the reason there is no 335xd is because the engine room is too small for all the required parts. Anyone know better?

i've seen a 330xd before... they probably dont see a market for it... either that or the torque would rip the current trans to pieces??? your guess is as good as mine though.

I'd buy one in a heartbeat. I just had a loaner 335d and it was an awesome car. Way more peppy than my 335x drive and much better fuel mileage.

There is no question that the D has more torque than its gas counterparts. I would have probably purchased a D but diesel prices are still way to high. I also don't think that they are as moddable as the i's.

I'd say the 0-60 is comparable, I haven't timed them back to back, but when getting up to speed on the hwy or passing traffic, the 335d definitely got up to speed much quicker than my xi. For both cars weighing about the same, the torque in the D was instant and the car just took off. Where as on my xi, you have to wait for the turbo's to spool and then the car moves, but you still never get the seat of the pants feeling in my car like the D, it really pushes you back into the seat EDIT: I'll definitely be watching to see of BMW does this...I was just out there looking around and noticed that they have the X5 X0Drive35D....ohhh yeah

I wonder 2 things about a 335xd
1. Can the xDrive tranny handle the torque? Based upon the X6///M I think so, but maybe not in a compact size needed for a 3 series? 2. The diesel is about mileage. Why offer xDrive, which would only serve to diminish fuel mileage. The don't sell that many Xi's or 335d's, relative to the 335i sales.

I got information straight from a BMW Group spokesperson.
It turns out the market segment for 335d is so small and the market segment for 335d with xDrive would be even smaller so it wouldn't be financially wise for BMW to introduce xDrive for 335d, investments vs. possible profit... |

I've seen a 335xd coupe in Europe, which is probably the strangest combination 3 series I've ever seen. It's a shame the US gets shafted on these kind of options.

The diesel has quite high gearing (probably due to torque and low RPM).
0-60 is similar, byt according to BMWDE, the passing times (80-120kmh) are a lot faster with the diesel variants.

It had to be a 330Xd. They don't make one - at least not for the german market and I'm pretty sure Germany gets every model.

Uh, no.
the only XID is the 330XID (as stated above). Still, having owned a modified audi S4 with similar torque numbers, the AWD is fantastic with that torque. Just amazing. I can't imagine being handicaped with RWD and that much torque.

Are you guys sure? I could have sworn the back said 335xd, that's why it made an impression on me because it was such a strange combination on a coupe. But then again, I saw it in Bulgaria where debadging and rebadging is all too commonplace. Or I could just be mistaken...

I'd be delighted just to have a 330xd, you can chip those things to ~440ft-lb which is more than enough for me.

Yeah, if they made a diesel 335x touring I would buy one tomorrow. That would be a great family cruiser.

It would be really nice if BMW would allow different engine and body packages under their Individual program. If so I would be all over a 335xi wagon either gas or diesel.
