VAC Front Hub Extenders... Anyone Else Tried Installing These Things?
I ordered front hub extenders from VAC to run with some 8mm spacers. I tried installing them and there was NO WAY these things were going to fit into the hub opening. I called my sales guy Chris and he was very responsive, immediately shipping out a 2nd set along with a retun label for the other set. He said they are machined specifically for the e9x.
Now the 2nd set had the coating around the part that inserts into the hub machined off; Chris said they coated a batch to thick. Okay, makes sense... He also said he test fitted them in a new hub. GREAT! Well, I tried installing the 2nd set at a shop and again there seemed to be no way these things were gonna fit. I called Chris at VAC again and he e-mailed me instructions showing that you need hammer them in. Okay, also made sense since the extenders seemed like they were only a mm off, so I thought if I greased them up and tried hammering them in it would work. Well today I finally got around to trying to install these things for a 3rd time. I cleaned out the hub cavity real good with sand paper, greased it up as well as the hub extender, then I started whacking away at it to no avail... It wasn't even close to going in, in fact the damn extender started to peel back where the aluminum was getting pushed back by the hub from me trying to pound it into the hub opening and it the outside even got a little dented up. Anyway, just wondering if anyone else has experience with these? Last edited by cssnms; 07-07-2012 at 06:23 PM.. |

No experience with this product, but I notice you're running a 335d. Does it have the same hub size as a gas car?
I know the X5 has 3 different hub sizes based on the engine that's installed.

okay, i will bite. This thread is 6 years old from last post. I need to go with some really thin spacers (3 mm) so i need to use the hub extenders. I have noticed that TMS ones will not work on E9x. I searched net and found these same VAC ones that are claimed to fit E9x.
So do they? My side story is I don't need the spacer to flush out the wheel and tire. I'm switching from OEM stagger(18x8 ET34 F and 18x8.5R ET37) to 18x9ET30 all around. using the new Apex SM-10s. The front one is going to very close to my Ground Control coil over's lower spring perch. I will be using 255/35/18 on all of them. Just need a little bit outboard movement. But, per the TMS site, I need a hub extender for this thin of a spacer. Wheels arrive tomorrow and hopefully i won't need the spacer. We will see. |
