Actually, is there a way to deactivate them? I don't have xenons so don't really need them.
Banzi, what difference does it make whether or not you have Xenons? Not sure what you mean mate.

I believe it's a legal requirement to have washers if you have xenons, but not with halogens.

Might be wrong of course.

I have had to sort mine twice in the 3 months of ownership on my 97 E92. If its just sitting proud of bumper then you can adjust the springs to make them fit flush again, I've done it today & it took 5 mins now that I know what I'm doing.

1) Carefully pull out flap slightly to reveal washer jet ( flap is attached to washer jet by 2 springs which are connected to a clip that fits onto washer jet)

2) Using some form of hook ( I use a thin metal skewer bent 90 degrees at the end) pull out the washer jet, it will retract if you let go so be careful & it is quite stiff to pull out but you won't break it!

3) Remove the flap by uncliping from the washer jet.

4) Depending how bad, either just compress the springs tightly or remove springs completely from the clip then compress using some pliers.

5) Refit & let the jet retract, it should now sit flush or it has done for me. It will go again but is a temporary fix, I will remove the fuse I think to eliminate the problem but shouldn't have to, it's a really bad design by BMW!

Hope this helps.

thanks but I think I'll will just find out how to remove the fuse. The head light washer is a pointless feature in my opinion and requirements. I wash my car every week and certainly dont take it off road or any where that significant dirt would fly up to the headlights.

Just an update really.. Took the car in to the stealers to get the ignition coils replaced (free as was recall issue) and they also fixed the flaps free of charge! Just said they took them off and refitted properly. All works fine now

Good stuff. Can't imagine most garages doing it for free though! Think I'm going to try and fix them myself (probably breaking them in the process )

As above, the headlight washer flaps aren't sitting flush. They're slightly open by a noticeable amount.

Maybe its me but when I pushed one down, the other seemed to come up more?!

Any ideas? Don't want to push them both down too hard just in case.

Cheers

Better get it fix while its under warranty, I've had both sides replaced 2x times under warranty in the last 4 years. They need to replace the control arm under the cap, its not retracting properly. Including labor and parts these costs around $300 each, so get it done while its under warranty. I asked my technician how to prevent these from happening and he said its just poor design, better to not leave your car out the cold because the plastic/metal/spring of the control arm is more prone to damage due to constant change of weather condition.

Yep, think it’s a uk model thing when I checked my fuse layout there was only one fuse

Could try unplug the washer pump, pretty sure it’s separate to the windscreen, see it pops a code or not....

Really useful thread this one

I am a newcomer to BMWs, and din't realise that the washers were under the flaps My VIN info says my E92 has headlight washers, b ut I just thought it was wrong and I just had covers over where the washers should be, and that they just didn't fit properly.

Anyway, pulled one back this morning to reveal the washer set up behind it

Bad news is that now I'm wondering if I should do something to fix them properly

Just leave them. Problems with them seem to be very common. From what I've read they just seem to be a complete pain in the ass, plus they just make a mess of the front of the car. I've coded mine out.
