Is a downpipe a reasonable DIY?

I am mechanically inclined, but have some limited resources. Hand tools only, and no lift at my disposal.

Is installing a n55 downpipe reasonable with these limitations?

I've done complete engine swaps, transmission swaps and supercharger installs on different cars in the past, all with the same resources, so in not afraid of trying. In just unsure of the accessibility of the dp for a DIY-er.

It would be pretty tough without a lift. Many people have done it though. If you have done everything you listed above, a downpipe should be a walk in the park though...

The consensus is 50/50 it seems. You would want to be a smaller guy given it is a tight squeeze under ramps and the DP is extremely tight. Needing the right tools, pivots, joints etc..etc..for your ratchets. and probably some luck that the current bolts are not impossible to loosen once you get access. heard the Xi is much more difficult

I am really considering it as I would need to swap back and forth due to emissions.

N55 DPs are easier to do than N54s, but on ramps that would be a pretty miserable experience, I'd imagine a lot of time would be spent/wasted just dealing with how tight everything is. IMO it would be extremely frustrating to do lying on your back..but if you've done SC installs and tranny swaps on ramps, this is child's play.

Garage List
I had a lift when I did mine, but i don't see how it would be that difficult on ramps... except that it was easier to get to the v-band clamp bolt through the passenger wheel well with the wheel off. Still, it shouldn't be that bad if it's a RWD car.

I can do it in less than an hour with a lift. Shouldn't take any more than 3 hours on your back, I'd guess.

It is totally doable for someone that has done engine swaps in the past. I wouldn't want to do it lying on my back but that is just me.
