Non-diamond for me. Diamonds are too poncy on a men's watch.

Yes, that would be the way to go. The girl at the shop suggested that as well.

So were you lucky enough to get a diamond watch off your hubby?

Anyone here collects vintage watches? Are they easy to maintain?

I suppose mine could count as vintage. It is 40 years old after all! Mine is wind up, so apart from manual winding required it is pretty easy. Only problem I had was that it was gaining time for a bit. This has been sorted though and now runs beautifully. Come service time, I was told ~1200 from a shop in the city. They even offered to buy the watch just in case I could not afford the service. Needless to say I took my business elsewhere.

sounds cool, is that an Omega or Rollie? 40 yrs in watch world is vintage for sure. I was just wondering if is easy to get original parts for these watches from the authorised service centers once they age. Also do you keep things like the dial, hands etc. in original faded condition or do you replace visual parts of the watch when they wear out? I would think keeping it as original as possible is the way to go?

It's an Omega. It wasn't used for many years and considering my interest in watches, my grandfather decided it would be of more use to me rather than sitting in his drawer. Visually, the watch is in very good condition. No fade/loose parts/ anything.

The DeepSea is much chunkier than the Submariner but still not overpowering unless you have a very small wrist.

Watch thread, cool!

I've got a few Tags around that I don't wear much. I like Kenny's dateless Submariner as well, nice clean look.

Use this when out and about or doing sport

Haven't had time to scratch my head let alone find time to buy a watch...just ask SBC. I have been cancelling our regular cruises... I did however get gifted a very bling Longines antique watch by my father a month or so ago. I am still set on getting that Rolex i posted a pic of. I'll be going to Italy some time in September, fingers crossed i make time for shopping this time round.

How about you? Did you end buying online?

Sounds good. Nah, just took my brother a different wedding present instead of the watch but now am looking at vintage Rolexes, still looking for my first good vintage. Was too busy enjoying myself on my holiday though to do any serious research. Looks like vintage Rolex collecting is quite a refined art that takes years to master but I can't wait that long.

Just got my first vintage watch, is a early 70's 1680 red submariner with all it's original papers. Might not be as flashy as the modern watches but I love it and is a collectable !!

What a great way to start a watch collection mate, love the submariners. They are one of the most simply and elegant watches out there. Congrats!
