Yeah... I have $15 bulbs on my suv for reverse light. They're pretty bright too.
I can pay more for quality, but... That's a lot.

What kind of SUV? BMW housings are pretty tight and not alot of space is there to put anything larger than the halogen bulb in there.

I'm working on a solution that will be under $100 for all E9xs.

funny you say this... On my Ranger, I installed a 3155 fixture with 45 LEDs on it, 360 degree pattern. the ranger housing is so big and reflective youd think anything would work well inside it. That said, the tiny little Lux fixture used in my 328 is way brighter than backing up with my ranger.

Well LUX uses high powered LEDs with a constant current power source around 1A I believe.

The 45 LEDs are probably getting less than 20mA per LED. The don't produce that many lumens. Also they are just slapped onto the base. They aren't aimed to take advantage of the stock reflectors.

The design of LUX utilizes the stock reflectors.

true, the entire fixture is rated at 220 lumens, and 300ma, maybe 6ma per led?.. the fixture is huge, in word, they kinda suck

i was impressed after seeing them work so poorly compared to how bright the tiny one Lux made.

Yea my units will be using 1 or 2 high powered LEDs. I'm still experimenting with design though. We're working on E92 housings now. They are tight....

E90 housings have slightly more room.

Yeah, the trick is gonna be building a "universal" bulb--simply because the E90/91 Pre-LCI (1156), E90/91 LCI + E92/93 (921), and E92/93 LCI (funky custom bulb) all use different lights and have different reflector styles. But I wish you the best!

Best,

Best,
OK, just so people can search this, here's the answer:

No. (and it will likely stay that way for quite a while)

It doesn't have to be compatible to the lux reverse lights.... Anything is better than the stock yellow bulbs.

The HPB product seen in the posting above is only for the E92/93 Pre-LCI and E90/91 LCI.

our backup lights produce around 650 lumen each, so thats 1300 lumen of light for backing up. The 45 LED ones from ebay might be around 100 lumen each if your lucky

I'll hopefully have something rolled out by the end of January. It's in prototyping and testing phase now.
