One of the maps basically turns the JB3 off. You can select, off, low boost, high boost, race gas, etc.

If you forget which stage your last map was set, is there a way to check?

thats cool. it isnt bad for your c ar if you switch between them often is it? because i think i would keep it off more and switch it on when i need a little extra fun, or have some evo's to kill

I don't think its bad. Just takes the car a little time to adapt to each map to take full advantage of it. I wouldn't keep it off, maybe on low boost for daily driving.

I agree^^

Keep it on the default map or something a bit more powerful, i do that, and driving around town the car seems stock, just perfect. But when i need the power and i step on it, my heart gets lost and hell breaks loose. I use to wonder which map to leave it on, but once you go through the maps and test which one you like most, you won't be changing it often

Just want to say, I'm no professional tuner, nor mechanic, nor an engineer, but to state that a tune will have no long term affect on the turbos is probably inaccurate.

The JB3 and V3 will raise peak boost from 8.8 psi to about 13-15 psi on the non race gas maps. And in certain areas of the rpm range the tunes will over double the boost pressure.

Again, I'm no engineer nor mechanic, but when you increase the stress and heat and just overall duties of a piece of equipment by as much as double, you will without a doubt wear it out sooner.
Now how soon, nobody knows.

The chances of the turbos and other engine components failing sooner because of the use of a tune should be well above the average failure rate of these cars that were left stock.

Modifying the car in any way that increases wear, stress, heat, friction, etc will most assuredly reduce it's "normal" life cycle of it's parts.

That being said, just be judicial on the use of the additional power if you plan to keep the car for a long time and want as many trouble free miles as you can, but yet still want the additional power the tunes offer.
As someone pointed out, let your right foot be the "low boost map" in normal driving. Chances are for 90% of the time you are driving and in traffic, you'll be using far less than the 8+ psi the stock car puts out.
If you are regularly using 10-15 psi boost you are going to have lots of speeding tickets and lose your license anyway.

Good luck and enjoy the 335i when you get it.
You'll love it and will love the power a tune adds too.

Thanks for bringing up the fairly obvious point of increased turbo wear that most people either ignore or are ignorant to. It doesn't matter if the V3 and JB3 carefully increase boost while monitoring all other parameters...those small Mitsubishi turbos are going to doing a lot more work then they were designed for when chosen by BMW.
