Quaife LSD installed!!!

can't believe I waited this long....this should have been one of my first upgrades! even with stock boost, car feels so much better. with higher boost, car is insane. this is how the car should have been built, but then it would be too close to M.

car just feels more planted and stable when lanching and coming out of turns as the torque is biased to the tire with most grip (outside) unlike the OEM open diff which is the opposite.
car grips better. no more squirming rear end and one wheel burn outs.

FYI:
"The ZF LSD is what BMW used all the way up to the M3 E36. It works, but has a couple of major downsides. Firstly, it has wearing clutches, which are costly to replace. The second problem occurs during the aforementioned pulling away from a wet junction. The way this diff transfers torque to a spinning wheel can only be described as sudden.

The differential actually locks up, effectively removing all the action of the differential. In this situation, the sharp transfer of torque is often
enough to break traction on both wheels. Entry speed into the desired lane of traffic is somewhat improved, but at a heroic angle of attack, and with plenty of corrective steering angle. This diff can be purchased and modified to fit many BMW open differentials. The torque split varies (instantaneously!) Between approx. 5% -25% or more. (Tuners like 10-40%) You can't do this with an open diff!

The BMW M Differential is great, but given BMW own it, it cannot be sourced from anyone but them, and at some substantial cost. It is capable of being installed into non-M models, but is expensive to engineer onto other cars. It uses clutches plus a viscous coupling to generate the reduction of slip. It generates quite a lot of heat while it slips, and is wasteful of power therefore. The Quaife ATB differential has to be the favourite.

It has no clutches to wear out, has a lifetime warranty, and gently massages the torque away from the spinning wheel to the one with more traction and is capable of varying the torque split between 0 to 80%. Perfect! It is genuinely one of the very best tuning products we have ever encountered in our 30+years in the BMW tuning industry.

No wonder Autocar said "As car addicts, we cannot allow the Quaife ATB to be ignored" And the result is?The little yellow flashing light is encouraged not to, and the car accelerates to it's maximum potential, with total stability"

Let's see those times in the summer tom. I'm gonna throw on some drs and kosei k1s. That should really help with a MT. I have AT so drs and koseis should do it.

I'm glad your happy Tom.
It's an unbelievable upgrade and I just wish I had the LSD.

thanks Mr. 5!
in retrospect, this should have been my second mod after tune.
tune is cheap easy upgrade
IC, DCI, DV should be after LSD IMO, as they add relatively small amounts of performance/power.
but LSD is huge change in car's performance and handling characteristics but is most costly
but after a ECU remap, you really need to put the power down!

thanks for the review.. I have a question, to ensure that the DTC doesn't intervene is it best to turn DTC and DSC completely off for most power to the wheels?

I agree with you... The car just feels better. I also think the LSD is an excelent investment if you really like to drive the car hard.

He is talking about the Quaife LSD . Thats the one to get. BMW will NEVER sell an LSD for 335i and the one from Dinan will cost a kidney probably (and from what i heard its a quaife as well).
Check with Harold HP Autowerk .

Dinan will likely be rebranded Quaife and 50% increase in price to have name/warranty attached.

How much extra would it cost if you have a welded diff? I know it's more, but is there a huge difference?

Please let us know what difference you actually feel and where you got this done. I am not too far, so might be interested. Any warranty come with that?

beauty is you can use both together or just shut off the electronic nannies completely.

personally, i have the quaife lsd and for daily driving i always hit the DTC button just once.
... but for racing (drag or circuit) i would turn DTC completely off - but be careful doing this.

warranty??!! what warranty... lol..
i am really loving the feel, just like midlife described on just pressing it once for driving it around but its really not needed for normal day to day driving. she is planted like all the other lsd drivers say. i am one of those guys that needs to experence it myself and i can tell you that i love it, truely. i went to the track the other day and was trying pretty much everyway to launch her without a lsd. i will go this coming weekend to see how the lsd works and all. last time at the 1/4 i had trouble launching (auto) i tried launching everywhere from 1500 to 2500 rpms to see what would hook up, with toyo tires, 4 sec burnouts to just 1 sec cleaning them off... so when i go next week i will put up my times up and explain all the differences on each. but for now, the around town but dyno, man i love it.....
but harold is the man and explained the whole i had a bolt in and not welded so mine was only 1450 and with install came to just under 2.....
so times and fun to follow next week!!!
