Anyone try a stock 330i DME on a 325i?

Will it throw codes?

(given: I have someone to align the car to the 330I dme)

AFAIK, the dealership is the only place that can code a DME to your car's VIN, and I don't think they can (or will) code a 330i DME to a 325i. Just swapping the computers won't work though.

unless maybe one of the tuners has figured out how to do it.

no worries, I have a buddy who works for BMW.

I want two DME's mainly for smog purposes and because supposedly the 330i's programming (and intake manifold) is the only thing that separates it from the 325i right?

And exhaust system, and the differential gearing is different.

You'll need to program the tranny also, since it will think its a 325 still.

In theory it should work as long as the ECU families are the same (msd80,81 and so on)

are the tranny values in the DME or a separate unit? Because I don't really care about the tranny.

I think the 325i computer is a MSV70. (probably not then?)

The computer for the 325i and the 330 are the same part number. it's just the programming that is different. Both are MSV70.

Also, the 330 and 325 have the same model auto trans. Part numbers are slightly different, but the actual model is the same. The 328i uses a different model transmission and DME

they have a module inside of them, hints the different part #'s

just do a manual swap and forget about it

if the both run the "70" DME you just need it vin coded.
