Running Hot?
On my new 2011 328i, yesterday in crawling traffic in L.A., I noticed the engine fan was running continously. I then saw the outside temperature readout on the dash go from 98 to 120 degrees in less than two minutes. It was hot in L.A. yesterday, but not that hot. The car doesn't have a engine/oil temperature gauge but there was never any warning light indicating that it was overheating. It returned to normal once traffic lightened up a bit. Is this normal for driving in stop and go traffic?

Yes its pretty normal, our cars hate traffic. Every time I'm stuck on the 10/210/5/or 405 freeways in anything over 90° - the fan is constantly running.

We do have a hidden menu in these cars, and they have about 20 things you can mess with. I will try and find how to access it, and if we can see the engine temps

+ if you were running air fans should come on automatically... I imagine these fans are dual or variable speed. With a/c, hot weather, and traffic fans would run on high... Not having a water temp or oil temp gauge does bother me a little, but as long as you don't have an idiot light pop up you should be fine.
