Picking your car up in Dallas is pretty smooth. What sux is that it's ALL the way on the other side from here and it's in a pretty shady area. I'm on Kelly BTW...I'm over at Lackland often. I've seen a few 335's around lately on the base....somewhat modded.
So Cars and Coffee is on this weekend? I thought they didn't have it in Dec.... Pcasey....there aren't too many options here as far as very reliable/reasonable price to do "special" work on these cars THAT I KNOW OF. I know this isn't an answer you want to hear...but the BEST thing you can do is do all the work yourself/get help from people on here. Now that I think of it...go out to the car shows. There are guys who hand out cards there that do work at their houses. One of the cars and coffee I went to...a guy pulled up in a modded out E30 M3 (badass BTW) and parked next to me. He gave me his card (I'll have to find it) and said he'll do any work you want on a BMW. Whether or not he's legit...I don't know. I talked to him and his buddy for a little bit and they seemed legit. They were "older" guys too...like me.

It's going to be pretty brisk out for C&C if they have it this weekend - is it on for Saturday or Sunday? I'm new to the area and the ones we had in Austin/Leander were on Sundays.
As for doing mod work, there are a lot of us on here who can help out. I also live close to Alamo BMW Motorcycles, where they also do work on cars (they have the equipment and tools and a certified tech), although most of what they do is repair and restoration work. Nice to know there are other "older" guys around. Some of us are still fairly useful.

It's the last Saturday of every month. The guy that co-runs it rolled my fenders (Miles). He does great work BTW if any of you need that done. I have his number so I can call and ask if y'all want to know.
That's funny you mention that BMW motorcycle place. I drive up there often and have always wanted to pull in there just because I see the BMW sign, lol. I might be up there today. Going to the V-dub dealer to look at a GLI.

C&R Facebook page says 'see you on the 29th!', so it sounds like it's on.
It says it starts at 7:30. How soon before or after that time does it get "full" ? I went to Cars and Coffee once in Dallas and shortly after their start time it was jam packed with cars and people, nowhere to park. |

If it's at the same place as the one I went to awhile back (off 1604 and Blanco, I think), it filled up pretty quickly, and people were leaving by 10:30. It may still be below freezing at 7:30 on Saturday AM, so not too sure what the turnout will be like. I've got to head over to San Marcos at 9, so I probably won't make this one.

Well...since I'm no longer an owner of my car I'm pretty depressed....but I'm getting over it I guess, lol. Hope to be back some day soon. But yeah, if you want a good spot...I'd get there before 8. And people do start leaving around 10. Bimmers don't usually try to look for each other out there like the others do...
Roundel....I had the whole family last night....and we just stopped for a sec at the VW dealer. I'm thinking about getting a GLI.

Gizmo - no problem, I figured you had other things going on. So what made you decide to sell your E92? I've just ordered a 2013 M-Sport Line 335i and am trying to sell my current E92 (Dinan S3 & supporting mods) before it comes in. I need the 4-door and the larger size of the F30, but I will probably miss the power my current car has until the tunes get sorted out for this newer generation 335. If you know of anyone who might be interested in my car, it only has 41.5K miles on it and I'll make them a good deal. If you're in the neighborhood again sometime, ping me and we can meet up.

Damn that sounds tempting....I'd like to see it for sure.
Damn...that new one will be nice...and they're ummm...I'd say slightly fast to say the least anyway... I sold my car just because I needed to take a break for a while....I have a little one to raise right now and I want another.... The GLI would be for the wife I guess.....and I'll drive the A4. At least I'm staying German for now.... My truck MPG is driving me crazy...

Yeah, I can sure understand how a truck could be causing you some pain at the pump. Not exactly built for economy, but they do the job if you need that kind of vehicle. Have you thought at all about a TDI-engined VW? Friend of mine has one and gets well over 40MPG in daily driving.
Looks like someone got a pretty nice car from you, though. I can see how you'll miss it. When the kids come along, priorities change (congrats on the little one!). Now that mine are grown and away, the wife and I can have our "fun" cars, although with some recent friends visiting, we realized how impractical the coupe is for carrying guests around and my grandson is growing like a weed. I really wanted to wait for the "performance diesel" that they have announced for the F30, but the year-end incentives are pretty compelling. The N55 is pretty quick as is, but I always like a little extra something - kinda like adding a little Tabasco for some extra "zip". My personal experience with VW/Audi has been limited to a couple of Turbo Beetles from 2000-2001, and while I loved the cars, dealing with VW customer service really sucked. I would hope that has improved now that they own Porsche as well.

The wife and I also rented a car and spent the night in Dallas. We didn't want to do the 10 hour drive here. You will get some what stressed with the driving over here. Also, watch out for road debris. These maps might help through the shittiest parts of I35. http://www.texastollways.com/austint...nglish/map.htm |

Have a safe trip, Bimmer84! I-35 is full of 18-wheelers, going thru Austin will be slow (take toll 130 if you can), and as you approach Dallas, the traffic will start to get crazy after you go past I-20.

Well boys (and maybe girls), I made it. Staying at the Studio 6 over by Lackland for now until I can get a house. Texas being a community property state, my divorce has to finalize before I can close on anything.
Pick the car up thursday or friday now instead of monday, as I found out I have issues with my license in Virginia that needs to be fixed. They never received notification of my move to Germany (which is a lie) and therefore filed me as an uninsured motorist after I canceled my policy stateside. Submitted paperwork already, and should be good thursday or friday hopefully. If something can go wrong, it will... always has.

Glad to hear you made it ok...bummer about the license. That they would do that to someone in the Military is almost beyond belief! Figured out what part of town you want to live in yet?

My real estate agent is looking mostly around the Sea World area, so I am close to Lackland but still in a nice area. She wants to make sure I find somewhere than can always be easy to rent or sell if I have to move. For my price range, I will probably pick up a 4 bed/2 or 2.5 bath. I don't need all the space, but it gives me a man cave, an makes it easier to resell later as I can target a large buying audience with all the bedrooms. Looking around 2k square feet, fened in back yard, and attached garage, which hasn't been hard to come by so far.

Yeah, lots of those types of houses around the SA area. I live out near Boerne (NW along I-10) and am in a new subdivision (homes still being built) where they run from 1700 to 2700 sq ft, the smaller ones 1-story. Small lots, well-built, efficient (low utilities), fenced yards, and the section I'm in is gated. It's probably 20 miles from where you want to be, but it's quiet out here. Good luck - you won't have any problem finding what you're describing.
