I need your honest opinion.

I've been a fan of AWD and such... Unfortunately, I do think the e92 335xi is within my reach.
I need your HONEST opinion. I've done hours of research and asked maybe twenty people.

Would I be okay with an e92 335i 6mt in the Michigan winter.
If conformed correctly, I may make my decision soon

A good set of snow tires will get you through just about anything provided you have enough ground clearance.

The manual will help, but you will definitely need snow tires. Depending how close you are to GR (Lakeshore or east of 131), you might consider a winter DD. Saw you did the driving event over at Sharpe. PM before you decide to buy, might have a couple good CA's to help you through the process.

Buy the non-Xi 335, put on some KW V3 coilovers, drop it 2 inches, and drive it.....buy some winter wheels and tires, and it will be a totally different animal.

I've even driven Ferraris in deep snow with the proper tires. One of my friends had a Challenge Stradale that he put snow tires on to drive as his winter beater(summer cars were Enzos in black and yellow).

With the correct planning and execution, anything can be driven in the winter weather.

What are u driving right now? I personally NEED an AWD car because I hate RWD and FWD in Michigan snow. My XI does better then Ford F-150s in the snow storms lol

I just bought an '07 335xi w/in the last month and went through this same debate.

I ended up going with the XI b/c I figured it would be a lot less hassle to just put a good set of all season tires on it versus messing with the expense, time and storage of an extra sets of wheels/tires twice a year.

I opted for the xi and I still swap between winter (all seasons) and summer tires/wheels. Going with an i will keep your options for summer wheel/tire upgrades open and a nice set of snow tires will get you through the Mi winters fine... but, my xi's winter performance has been nothing less than outstanding, for what it is worth.

You might regret not getting it if you deal with ungroomed roads and/or hilly areas often. Other than that, there's no need.

Also depends on whether or not you're in the Snow Belt area.

No not the ideal car if your going to be routinely driving in the snow..especially w the stock open diff..

i've had both. as stated above you'll probably be okay with snow tires. if you drive far for work or whatever else, then it might not be the best idea. i work from home a lot so if i drove one day a week i had to be a lot more careful than with the xi but i survived. i'm not sure if i would do the same if i had a real daily commute more than a few miles away from my home.

I have a 335i coupe lowered on H&R sport springs and live right on the lake in Cleveland, Ohio. I have a summer setup consisting of 19" M6 reps with summer tires and the original 18" rims with a set of Bilzzak snow tires. The summer tires and/or the tires that came on the car absolutely will NOT work in the winter. However, putting the Blizzaks on the stock rims make the car an absolute CHAMP in the snow. Several times last winter I drove to work (30 miles) in a blizzard with 10+ inches of snow on the ground and had no problem at all.

Summary: stock tires/rims = No way. Blizzaks on stock rims = no problem.

I came from an awd WRX and then spent last winter in MI with a 335i with Michelin Pilot Alpins on the stock 18" (162) rims. This setup was fine for all but the worst of the snow we had here last winter. I am glad I went with the i and would not change to the xi if I had the chance to do it over.

My only regret was in using the stock rims. The roads here in MI were so horrible by the end of the winter that I ended up losing two tires to potholes and had to get all four wheels straightened. For this winter I will go with a 17" wheel and winter tire package.
