Question Is vehicle software upgrade worth the trouble?

A couple of weeks ago I've had 3 different long cranks with an interval of 200-300miles..
So basically there's no pattern..
The long cranks no longer occured since last week and it's been 600miles without long cranks..
I took it to the dealer the other day(that's the only time I have) and by the end of the day they indicated on the invoice:

Fault 2FBF PRESENT. Following Diagnosis as per SIB 11 55 06,
Vehicle REQUIRES PROGRAMMING. PROGRAMMING NOT POSSIBLE DUE TO AFTERMARKET EQUIPMENT INSTALLATION.

- The aftermarket installation that they're refering to is the Pioneer Z110 stereo that I have. Other than my stereo, I removed my tune and everything else before I brought it to the stealership...
My SA mentioned that it requires the original stock stereo for them to perform the software update. I have the stock stereo but it's just hidden under my compartment.

My questions are:
- What does the SIB 11 55 06 contain? Does anyone have a copy of it?
- Does it really require the stock stereo to be present in order to perform the upgrade?
- I'm not sure what version I'm in right now but do I have to have the upgrade installed? Is it worth it?? I'm already in 49,400mi so, I guess I have to do this soon.....

Thanks guys.. Any thoughts?

The only mods that I have are in my sig..

I'm no expert but I've noticed there are a lot of brains to the car that connect to the stereo - the config/menu button comes to mind. I can't say for sure if its needed but it seems quite important in the grand scheme of the car to leave the stock one alone (or put it back so they can program the car).

I'd ask them if you put the stock HU back if they would then do the work? if its that simple then do it.

What is your fault code related to?

I would say yes, do the upgrade if you care about your car. Newest software ensures that many bugs you may didn't even know of are corrected and the car will run better.

without the factory components in the car, it is impossible to complete the test plan. Its not that the shop doesnt want to perform the update, the programming unit will NOT continue if a required component is not recognized.

the stereo head unit is part of the entertainment control, and if not present, a failed test plan is inevitable.

so if you want your car updated with all the new fixes and things, put the head unit back in the car, and take it back for programming.

Yes, just had my car reflashed with the new software. I thought my HPFP was going but all they did was update my car and my "problamatic" fuel pump magically works like new.

Well worth it for me. Fixed an off-the-line lurching with my 6AT and improved the shifting in DS as well. Also, fixed issues with the BT phone handshaking.

with that fault code the bulletin should be 12 55 06 (REVISED March 2010)
2BFB (Fuel pressure on-release injection, pressure too low)

11 55 06 is non-existent

cheers

No they didn't see my DP's. It was a risk I was willing to take. Everything else was back to stock, only DP's/Exhaust/FMIC were left on.

Good to know -- it never occurred to me that swapping in an aftermarket stereo would interfere with programming.

There's one mod I can take off the list!!

Definitely I care for the car.. I even plan to keep it for 2 more years..

I had the 328i as a loaner when i turned in my car and driving it made me love my car 335i even more.. Damn it's crawling.. Even though there's an HFPF issue with 335i, I don't think it's well worth it to choose 328i instead...
My opinion though...

Sweet... Damn thanks guys!! You guys rock!

Lol.. I'd have to agree.. IMHO, i would not consider it just because of the HFPF issues..
