6spd swap
I am tired of my auto and am thinking of swapping over to a six speed. I have a couple questions though. Does anybody know if you need to reflash the computer like you had to in the e46 and if you do would the proceed be able to take care of this. Also is the driveshaft and guebo the same for both.

I really don't know if it would be that hard.
It's much easier to go from an AT to an MT than the other way around.

the parts, labor, time, money is not worth it. if you really want a 6 speed go trade your car in.

It's not a matter of it being difficult, it's the ridiculous expense one would pay for emotional attachment. I'd only do the swap if the car had extensive mods that could not be reversed. Otherwise it's an unnecessary expense.
The hit you would take from trading in your car and buying a different one would be significantly less and less likely to be problematic. |

trans swap is actually quite easy it's not hard. I have done it in many other cars. The only thing I wasn't sure of would if it would needed to be reflashed.

I was actually looking at a CPO 2008 6AT 135i with Premium/Sport Black/Coral Red 31k miles. Called the dealer and told them assuming a mint 2009 car (which mine is) Dealer offered close to an even swap, problem is I do not want to give up my 2.9% APR and eat an additional 14k miles. Used car APRs assuming perfect credit will run in the 8-9% range and that will add some cost to my monthly payments. I don't think the miles are a dealbreaker as the warranty is also extended on the CPO car... Was seriously considering the swap until I did the payments on a worst case scenario. Plus the cost of retinting the windows and reinstalling all my mods. Figure I can go get a set of Kosei K1's on MT ETs and call it a day for less than what I would pay over the next five years.
God knows why that car was sold or traded. I can say though my 135i has been well-behaved, aside from one HPFP and a boost leak. Wouldn't want to inherit someone elses lemon, always a risk with used cars.

Im seriously considering trading my auto in for a similar spec and age 6mt, purely because i do not drive my car as much as I thought i would when i bought it. I now have car i use for the daily grind so she only gets used at the weekends and I wish id bought a manual sometimes.
In the UK autos are around £2k premium over manuals, i think its the other way round for you guys in the states? So if i trade in, il be looking at some extra cash for jb3 and possibly lsd!!! OP i reckon if your serious about wanting MT, trade her in, it will be such a hassle swapping stuff, just my 2 cents |

mine is black saphire metallic with corol red interior. Premium and cold weather package and 13000 miles. Very well maintained and no problems yet, knock on wood. Mine is currently on lease with very low monthly payments.

If you do this, make sure the shop has the electronics knowledge to go with it. Modules will have to be recoded to make sure everything lines up. Not simple on the electronics side.
