Taking car to dealer today. Should I remove my tune?

Let me start off by saying that I am out of warranty. I am taking my car in to have my new battery registered and was curious as to whether or not I should remove my Cobb tune. I am out of warranty however, my main concern is whether or not they can red flag my car for future recalls (specifically HPFP) if they find the tune.

i would just uninstall it anyways, doesnt take to long. better safe then sorry anything can happen. im pretty sure they wont void your recall on hpfp.

With a Cobb AP, this is a no brainer.

If you are out of warranty I don't see a reason to remove the tune. but saying that with the COBB its pretty simple to remove so can't hurt to do it.

Agreed. I'd leave any other mods on, but it's so easy to uninstall the Cobb.

On a side note, would the dealership be legally allowed to deny free replacement of the HPFP under the recall if you had mods and/or a tune on the car?

+1 Im also interested in this, because I have a aftermarket warranty so I dont care about uninstalling mods for servicing, but for the HPFP on BMW's dime will it work?

This is the main question I was asking with this post. Does anyone know if BMW can deny recall service if by chance they happen to void a warranty due to mods?

They haven't cared in my case. I've had 2 replaced with the latest last Friday and I'm fully bolted on with meth.

It depends on the dealer and how much they like you, from what I see. My case no issues, others get denied because they had a sticker on their car!

So even if they void a warranty b/c of mods, they still have the fix the recalled part b/c there was an issue with that part without a mod... i hope i make sense. lol.
Your rationale makes perfect sense but you and I both know that BMW probably doesn't look at it the same way that we do.

I just did a search and it looks like BMW can deny HPFP replacement if you have aftermarket mods. There are actually quite a few threads discussing this.

It seems like once your car is out of warranty, the dealer should work on your car regardless of mods. Acting as a BMW mechanic only at that point

I don't think you are understanding the debate. Say for instance, my car is out of warranty and at 60k miles the HPFP goes bad. Due to the somewhat recent recall, BMW has extended the warranty for the HPFP to 6 years, 120k miles if memory serve me correctly.

The question is, can BMW refuse to fix your HPFP under the extended warranty terms if you have modified the motor with non approved BMW parts.

Remember the dealership is NOT BMW, it's the dealership - privately owned. BMWNA issued the recall but having a great relationship with your dealer is going to be more important in this case. From what I have seen, your dealer can refuse to do anything they want (it's rare in clear cut cases like the HPFP) so, you should be ok as long as you didn't change anything on the fuel system itself.

With that being said - if they detected a tune and you had a turbo go out (under warranty), you can bet they'd deny it.

We would recommend uninstalling the AccessPORT before going to the BMW dealership. Often times, BMW will need to flash the ECU with an update, and this would overwrite the AccessPORT installation. Therefore, you would need to send the AccessPORT to us to have it re-licensed which usually only takes 1-2 business days, but it's still a hassle you can easily avoid!
