unusual tire wear?
I have 21K kms on my car, the front tires wear until I can see the cloth looking net on the edges. the wheel balancing is fine with correct air pressure too, do you guys have about the same time frame? or it is something I should look into? rear tires are fine
I have 162 |

I had a friend with 162's and the RF tires wore out way too fast. He took them to the dealer and they replaced them under the warranty. I'm not sure how many miles were on them but I know they were having some issues with them in the beginning. It wouldn't hurt to ask your dealer about them?

They replaced them for my friend for free though because it was unusual tire wear within the warranty.

You've told us what wheels you have, but not what tires. Your wheels are not wearing, the tires are...
If you have the summer performance tires, which is likely, you have gotten about all the miles you're going to get from them. Summer performance tires are made from very soft compounds for better grip and handling. The trade off is that they wear out VERY fast. Buy new tires. Problem will be solved.

If you have the Bridgestone Turanzas, then yes. BMW will replace them for free if under 10K miles, and at 50% cost if between 10K and 20K miles. (Based on threads I've read here.)
If you are seeing the steel belt, you should change the tire ASAP. |

The BMW bulletin that replaces defective Turanzas does not apply to normal or excessive wear indicated by the belts showing. This bulletin addresses the "feathering" wear of the outter tread causing undo noise.

BMW replaced mine free < 10,000 miles. I guess they were wearing unevenly and thus got very noisy. New ones certainly are quieter. I wonder how these will wear.

My conti's (front) did this after 25K miles, the rears wore evenly - Replaced them! Quite happy with 25K for the set.

If you read the Bridgestone warranty, it does not make clear about replacement, it reads if in the first 3 yrs you wear down to 2/32" they will replace the tire free, but the tire must be worn evenly across the tire. After 3 years then it is pro-rates based on the miles you got on the tires verse what they were rated. What is not clear is if this is a treadlife or material defect warranty, it sound like it does not matter, if you only get 3 yrs worth of life out of the tire as long as you did not exceed the total tread life it would be replaced. Their warranty is a bit confusing.
Read below. http://www.tirerack.com/images/pdf/warranty/BSFS1.pdf RFT have no tread life warranty only material defects. |
