335i Whirring Noise inside car

Hi guys,

Recenly have had an annoying constant whirring inside the car that changes pitch with the revs, sounds like a boost or vacuum leak but ive had no error codes etc.

Any ideas where to start?

Cheers

Could be the heater/blower motor. Try switching that off and see if it goes away

It doesn't go away when the heater and radio are off.

Is it like a buzz? Reason I ask is you recently asked re a loss of iPod/iPhone connectivity and to look at this you would of been looking at the audio connections which are behind the head unit and there are some signal power wires present and perhaps you are getting feed back (like suppressor type noise).

If it still takes place with the radio off then yep needs looking at as you stated on text to me, but what it could be? But if it sounds like a buzz could be something audio wise, blower fans a good call however in some cases

Hiya Steve,

Doesn't sound like that sort of noise, it only occurs when the engine is ON. Both the Stereo and heaters could be off and it'll still make the noise.

It's a distinct air whistling noise and changes directly with engine RPM. Doesn't matter whether I'm accelerating or decelerating, as it goes through the gears the pitch of the noise will go up and down as the RPM does. Also doesnt stop as car gets warmer.

I've a few things left to check, like whether it only does it in gear etc... Annoying thing is, I can only hear it inside the car

One other thing, since I installed the new water pump, the driver's side heating is much colder than passenger side. I went through the 12 minute bleed cycle etc, so not sure what has caused it. I've been reading and could be a clogged heater core?

Thanks mate,

Dale
