BMW Performance dampers with H&R Sport springs - anyone running this setup??????

I'm looking for feedback from someone who has paired the BMW Performance suspension dampers (like the ones from Tischer) with an aftermarket spring, such as H&R Sport.

Or, do you think the BMW Performance dampers (m-sport in Europe) are the same as the oem sport package dampers where aftermarket springs will damage/ruin them?

I've spent several hours searching this, and did not find anyone who is actually running this setup.

I've heard GREAT things about the BMW Performance suspension kit, but I don't feel like it lowers the vehicles stance enough. I'm looking for a drop similar to what H&R Sport gives...

Thanks!!!

Justin

Performance are NOT the same as stock ZSP, but I dont think they will provide enough damping for those springs. Check the sticky in this section to see the spring rates for each spring. You will see that they are significantly heavier than performance springs BMW uses in the kit.

i have the performance suspension and the eibach sportline spring shock combo. so i was debating on which shocks to install. until i put the struts side by side, the aftermarket piston is about 1.5" shorter then the performance strut. therefore i am not using the performance suspension. now i know you asked about h&r sports and eibach sportlines are supposed to be lower, but from pictures ive seen the drop looks similar.

I have the performance struts/shocks and H&R sports sitting in my garage ready to go on the car. Hopefully I can get to it this week and reply back.

I am running the HR sport springs and the ZSP struts need to be stiffer to handle the dips. Ordered the bmw performance shocks.

I THINK they will be better since they are stiffer, and the price on these right now is unbeatable.
If it doesnt work I will snag the HR spring + shock kit is $700 ouch!

Will report on how it feels when I get the order in.

My reasoning....
If the HR sport springs are designed for the stock sport shocks.
Considering the performance shock is stiffer or has more dampening.
There should be an improvement woth $150.

Got mine on last night. On the short drive to work this morning, the suspension really felt about the same as the stock ZSP stuff. Some bigger bumps were a little more jarring than normal. My drive home is about an hour, so that should be a better indication of how different it is from stock. I need to go find some twisty roads to drive on and see how much the handling improved. Unfortunately everything around me is neighborhoods, city streets, and highways.

I wouldn't really say anything is an improvement. Normal driving on decent roads feels just like stock. Hitting rough joints in construction zones sucks. Just on my drive home tonight, which was maybe 10 minutes on 66 and 495, my CD skipped twice on bad bumps. I dunno, I've had suspension much stiffer and lower than this before on mustangs and it never seemed this bad, even on the same roads. It's like I'm worried about every bump in the road. I think it has something to do with the runflats, and I really wish I got rid of them now instead of replacing the one with the bubble.

As far as the handling though, I've taken every corner I can as fast as I can and the body roll is even less than stock. It just flies around turns without a hitch. That is the part I love about suspension mods. Still waiting to hit some rural twisties one of these days.

yea, dump the runflats, big improvement. Have you gone through any dips in the road?
Something where the suspension gets loaded, then unloads at the top of a hill or something. The stock sport dampers dont have enough strength to keep the back from shooting up!

Yeah, plenty of dips like that on the beltway. I'd say it still feels the same as stock. I don't think many suspension setups are gonna prevent that. Some of the dips/lips I drive over are enough to put me out of the seat! Then again, that happened in my GT and integra, which were both on konis and coilovers, so I wouldn't blame this setup. I'd blame the shit roads and crappy roadwork.

No doubt dips are there, but does it feel like the damper is strong enough to keep thespring from bouncing the rear end up m down after a dip?

Yeah, the suspension really doesn't bounce much. I'll watch the cars in front of me with the back end going up and down a few times over big bumps on the road, and mine just does it once and stops. So yeah, I guess a big dip the car just goes down, comes back up and thats it, doesn't fly back up like you are saying.

I am now running this setup as well, bumps in the road for sure are more pronounced, but that would be with any stiffer combination. I am hoping things smooth out a bit once I get my new rims/tires. I am pretty happy with the combo so far.

IMO there are better springs to be had. The Perf dampers, however, are an unbeatable deal if you are modding on a budget.

Do you still have stock RFT's? My car has the Bridgestone RF and my mom's 335 has the Michelin RF's. I got to ride in her car over the same bumps that I hit every day on my commute and I could barely feel them in her car. She's got the stock sport suspension, but I couldn't believe how much smoother it was with just the different tires. Definitely gotta switch mine out now.

I've had the BMW Performance suspension on my car for about a year now with H&R Springs. Everything seems great, only thing I've always wondered was if I ever needed to shave/cut my spring stop bumps cause brands like TEIN includes them when you buy their springs and H&R doesn't. So I assumed H&R wants you to use the original ones, so I used the bmw performance ones.
