Question Rims Trend

I haven't purchased aftermarket rims since owning my Tl-S back in 2001. I noticed there is a shift from deep dip type of rims to the now more "concave" style.

Interested to hear fellows bimmers opinion on rims style.

Thanks

Hello reddemon,

You're right. The CSL M3 wheels kind of started the concavity trend and now it is very very popular.

Alufelgen makes a very nice concave wheel called the SF-71. The following are pictures of this wheel in Diamond Cut Black and Diamond Cut Silver finishes.

IMO the lip and the concave thing will not die out because they both give the impression that the wheels are wider than they really are . Color, style and brand are subjective.

Its an eye of the beholder situation here, I like both styles - it just depends on the rims.

A concave wheel design is definitely the new trend. If you're just starting to look at some wheels, I would recommend that you check out the Miro 111 wheel. I'll shoot you over a PM with more details. In the meantime, here are some pictures below for you to check out!

Typical fad. Give it another year or two and big lip wheels will be the in thing again.

these seem to be the new trend, the side of the spokes being machined out for light weightness, many famous manufactures r doing it on their new designs.

They need to make that Miro rim in that black finish, but with a polished inner lip!

Do those spokes go out passed the edge and then concave in towards the center?

Most manufacturers such as Miro, Avant Garde, and VMR, make their wheels specific to the vehicle where no fender rolling or any other body work is required EVEN if you were to lower the car. 19x9.5 et33 is the ideal setup for E92 and Pre-LCI E90.

+1

For my taste and generally speaking, wheels with a lip look best when they are an inch larger in diameter than full faced and/or concave wheels on the same vehicle. I have tried to rationalize why this is and believe it to be that the eyes are naturally drawn to the face or spokes of the wheel regardless if it is flush, concave, or set in (as is with a lip). Considering that the height of wheel lips appear to be roughly a half of an inch and the eye is drawn to the wheel face, the wheel appears smaller than it actually is by an inch in diameter. Regarding concave wheels, not only are they full faced and hence appear at least their actual size, but the concavity may make the wheel appear larger than the other two because there is more readily visible surface area between the wheel edge and center. Also noteworthy is the relative rarity of a vehicle to accommodate wheels with significant concavity...as BMW does very well. As an equal opportunity wheel lover, I find beauty in (almost) all types. After all that rambling, I generally prefer concave wheels.
