Thinking of lowering my car 25mm rear & 35mm front,

I have the mpsort suspension so it will be 10mm less on both rear and front apparently

Just wondering if it is ok to run this height on standard shocks?

Also would this change the ride quality much as I still want the car to be comfortable.

Eibach Prokit with msport shocks will be ok, but you will definitely loose comfort on bad roads because of very little compression travel.

You can go low but not for long especially on used shocks. BMW shocks don't last long regardless. Additionally they aren't valved to operated with lower and stiffer springs. Ditch them. Get aftermarket. Saving now won't justify doing the labor again, like 10k later.

This! +1: I made the mistake of getting my HR sports installed and not getting aftermarket shocks while i was at it.. My stock shocks are still good, no issue at all but soon they will need to be replaced with already 100k on them. Now i'm going to have to pay the labor again, almost if not the same as when they installed my springs and its not cheap. Charged me about 5 hours of labor @80 bucks an hour. Unless you do the work yourself then you'll be good, some sport sprngs with a moderate drop will work fine with the stock shocks for a while..

As almost everyone with just lowering springs and knowledge/care about a car's suspension dynamics will tell you, don't do just lowering springs on stock shocks.

You can pay for time/labor twice, or just get Koni/Bilstein shocks/coilovers right now.

Do it once, do it right.

I don't find any e9x comfortable to begin with. They ride is horrid on all, even brand new, unless on 16" wheels.
However, Koni FSD should allow the most comfortable ride from all aftermarket shock/struts.

Surely lowering the rear 15mm and the front 25mm won't affect the shocks a great deal though?

It's for xdrive, they won't fit.

It's E46 in your profile... What car you want to lower? Model (e90, e92,...), model year, RWD or XDrive, engine?

Yes, H&R sport springs will be fine with your stock shocks... That's what I have on mine.

I am at 114k. All OEM original. I was told by the front end trans experts I had no more than a year or 15k left. That was back in April.

Nobody can give you that information with out removing the struts/shock and running them on a shock dyno.
Even if they do run them on a dyno and struts/shocks still show with in specs they still might give out at any given moment.
I honestly can see your struts/shock in good order at 115k driven through out cold winters in Michigan.
My assumption is they under-perform by a lot. The car body roll has increased and so is the brake distances.
5 years, no more than 80k is when BMW shock/struts needs to be replaced.

Fathers 300k x5 is stock shock equipped with non air suspension standard sports suspension. It has some body roll but nothing more than a 80k mileage x5( my uncles) which I tested.

Fathers driving is about 150-175 miles a day and he bought it new. He has had a few others cars but drives this a lot.

You can tell when shocks are giving out or are shot. My mothers E46 I drove it once and right away I'm like rear shocks are gone felt floaty and on bumps would jump the car. Replaced the rears and was so much better. Cost me like 60 bucks for rear shocks I love the older cars lol

One of the biggest tell tale signs is when you brake sort of fast but not enough to set off the ABS and the car's front end bounces. If it does, time for new shocks and struts; they are about 90% gone at that point.
