Vacuum Pump leak

Hi Guys,

I've got my second vacuum pump leaking on my 320i... I know this is a common issue, however this new(er) vacuum pump has started to leak after approximately 1 year of use.

My question to you is am I covered by BMW's original parts warranty? The mechanic purchased it directly from BMW when it was replaced. The thing is, do I have to go through the mechanic to make the claim? I don't go to that mechanic anymore.

Any ideas would be appreciated!

You need to go back to the Mechanic and ask his advice, it is a lot of work for him to find the old invoice, contact BMW and try to help you sort it out.
But if you no longer go to him, i would say good luck with that.

The Mechanic / service provider has to do this for you, best not to shop around you should try and stick with the one shop where possible, just in case this sort of thing happens.

Hey Peter,

Cheers for the reply. I was trying to avoid shopping around, but as this was a new car and I required an RWC, I thought I'd take it to someone local first before I found a specialist. I'm happy with the place I'm at now

You don't think there's any chance of speaking to BMW directly and making a claim with the serial number (if it has one)?

Not sure if you're interested in a DIY fix or not. Found this on a UK BMW site.

Cheers for that, mate. I've actually used that fix on another N46 engine just the other week. I may do it again - it's a bit of a hassle, but worth the effort!
