You will need to completely remove the wheel going airbag first.

So lemme get this straight, to go from non-sport to M-Sport your looking at over $1k for everything. Wheel, Bag, trim, multi's.

Is it true the M-tech perforated steering wheel isn't as thick as the Smooth one? I heard this rumor somewhere and just wanted to confirm. Thanks.

Anyone tried to mount the non sport airbag and trim to this steering wheel? Everything looks like the same size from the pics.

You can't do it. You need the sport airbag.

Is it possible to repurpose the non sport airbag wire harness? I've tried but when I turn the car on the horn blares non stop. I connected the tan wire to ground and black to the horn. Should it be the other way around, I would try but I don't want the airbag deploying in my face because of it.

Thanks

After an hour and a half trying to pop out the, I am done for the day! Installed JB3 in 40 mins without ever seeing an ECU, but I can pop the fucking airback out.. I am so fucking pissed right now.

I have the m-tech wheel next to me and when I put the screwdriver in it, I immediately feel the clips (takes less than an inch). But with the wheel on the car, when I put the screwdriver in it goes 2-3 inches and hit something solid.

For the record, I am trying to put this on my gf's E87, it's been sitting in my garage for months (i have performance wheel installed by BMW dealer) and now I have the airbag/bracket/paddles and everything to make the change. Is it different there??!!

I spent about an hour trying to release mine, read that its best to use a 5mm flat head. Went out and bought one, I got it off within a minute with the proper sized tool.

Is it confirmed that the M3 Multifunction Trim (part number- 32302283739) will fit on the M-tech perforated steering wheel? I think so if it's the same as the M3 wheel. Thanks

I had trouble getting my airbag to pop out. I was able to pop the first side, but not the second. The solution was, after popping the first side, to push in on that side a bit while trying to pop the second. The airbag was popping too far out on the first side and even when I was hitting the clip release the hook of the clip was still wedged into the bracket.

Another odd thing I noticed doing this mod: on my CA car, I don't think the steering wheel locks. When I was trying to loosen or tighten the 16MM bolt, my wheels would turn unless I held onto the steering wheel. My tires were slipping around on my garage floor.

Great DIY and it appears to be standing the test of time. This is a GREAT improvement to one's car -- highly recommend it. This is not as daunting as the tone of the discussion would indicate. It's all clips and bolts, etc. and it will only go together one way, so it's hard to screw up. Getting the feel of the airbag was the only (relatively) difficult part.

my M Sport retro was done last week. Had my local dealer install.

One prob though, the gap on the right side, is BIGGER than the left side.

I can't figure it out. All of my parts were new OEM stock (buttons, cover, harness, airbag).

Doesn't bother me much, but 2 passengers have pointed it out.

Any idea's on what is wrong?

I don't think it's supposed to be that big of a gap, but I'll let the other guys explain.

noticed mine is kind of like that too. most likely it's the plate that is bent. (assuming that you screwed down the 3 torx securely)
