If I download the 100mb file from the zen internet speedtest I get around 970kB/s: http://fuller.zen.co.uk/test/ If I download 2 at once it maxes out my connection nicely. I use a download manager (net transport) on rapidshare, which is also a torrent client and ftp browser. I just cut and paste a list of rapidshare links into the program and it downloads them automatically splitting each file into multiple threads and maxing out the connection. Works a treat. Most torrents are uploaded onto rapidshare very quickly anyway. Do you actually get 20 meg from virgin. I have be broadband which gives 'up to 24 meg', but although I'm less than a km from the exchange I still can't get more than 13 meg. |

I do get a good 20Mb connection from Virgin, but only when I bypass the router & plug staight into the cable modem from the PC / Mac. This is due to the fact that the WAN port of the router can only run at upto 10Mb, as with most routers. For that reason, I will be buying a new gigabit router soon. If I download a file from http://fuller.zen.co.uk/test/ or from http://gamefiles.virginmedia.com/blueyondergames/ , I get around 1000KB/s, using the router. If I use a direct connection between the PC & the modem, it increases to 2000-2500KB/s. I've used Net Transport for a few years & it is a nice download utility. Cable is known to be a far more effective means of broadband data transfer compared to ADSL & the actual working speeds for most users do prove that, I think. I know that NTL (as it was known prior to 'Virgin') started local trials of 50Mb cable connections last year & they were found to be reliable. I'm looking forward to the next speed increase as soon as it happens! All the best. Viv |

I currently have Sky TV - which is around £20 a month. Be Broadband is a further £18 a month. According to the website 20mb service on Virgin is £37 Also - any problems with speed decreases due to the bandwidth throttling discussed here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virgin_...dth_throttling The lack of any traffic shaping seems to be the main attraction of Be Broadband .. but a 50meg service sounds awsome. The Virgin Broadband Xl pack (20Mb / 768Kb) costs £37 per month. The Medium L TV pack is £11.50. The Basic M Phone pack is £11.00. The wife & I are also on the Virgin Mobile SIM pack for Virgin Media customers at £10 each per month (300 mins + 300 txts both rollover) The majority of this is stuck through my books, as I'm self-employed, with little problem. You need to do larger-than-average downloading to experience the throttling. Virgin do reduce download speed to about 4Mb between 4pm & midnight, after reaching a 3 gig download limit within that day. I've not experienced it myself, but I know of others who have. More info about the current Virgin Broadband 50Mb trial here. Personally, I've had very little problem with the cable service, since I signed up when is was branded as 'NTL', over 7 years ago. There were occasional NTL domain server problems (< a dozen in 5 years) when I first signed up to cable broadband, but this seems to have been sorted out by Virgin, for now, at least. Hope this is of some help. All the best. Viv |

I'm downloading gears of war right now .. which is 8 gig, so virgin would be throttling me back to 4meg for the evening presumably? BE also had a few DNS problems, to the extent that many people used alternate servers to get round it. They claim to be unique in that their service is truly unlimited with no bandwidth throttling or traffic shaping whatsoever. My synch speed has certainly been consistent over time. Thanks for you help though .. I'm going to keep an eye on the 50 meg thing. This looks fun though ... up to 250 meg over copper: http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599...69-421,00.html |

The £47 monthly cost doesn't seem that bad for a 50Mb connection, but I would like to see the small print in BIG LETTERS first! Viv |

All 8 gigs are down now. The only thing stopping me is rapidshares limit of 25 gig in a five day period.

1.5Tb of storage... You might be better looking at network attached storage which would consolidate everything onto one device.

The 250 gig external is just a backup of ISO's for downloaded games and applications, my pictures and music I have windows installed on the internal 250 gig drive. Games and my documents on the 1st 500 gig Movies etc on the 2nd 500 gig. There is space in the case for 2 more drives .. so at some point I'll probably get another couple of 500 gig internals. |

It looks like the SatNavPro 2008-1 Road Map DVD is now available- BMW part number : 65 90 0 434 631.
I'm sure it will be 'available' with the current European SpeedCam Database quite soon. Viv |

Count me in for a .....err...torch.
I actually picked up a torch from my dealer, he said it would need charging, so I did, still doesn't work
