New windshield quotes
I called my insurance company (American Family) today to ask if my policy covers cracked windshields, and they told me my deductible is $500. Since my deductible is so high, they gave me a number to a guy who works at Elite Autoglass. He gave me a quote of $215, which inlcudes labor, factory glass with rain sensor, and warranty. Not only that, he will come to my house and do it. Does this sound too good to be true?
Btw, Ralph Schomp in Littleton, CO gave me a quote for $404 + $85 installation.

I had Elite replace the windshield on my MINI Cooper and they reeeaaaallyy screwed it up, the first one whistled and the second one created a dash rattle that Ralph Schomp still hasn't gotten fixed (even after 5 visits).
I eventually had the windshield re-replaced by Ralph Schomp, although the rattle in the dash is a reminder to never use Elite again! -Michael PS - check into glass coverage, especially here in Colorado - mine is through state farm and is only about $5 a month. Quote:

215 seems like a really really good price, that's usually the price for a non-OEM stamped glass, are you sure they say that it'll be "BMW windshield"?

I talked to a Safelite Autoglass tech working on a car at the office and he said the glass with rain sensor is about $200 range. However, if you just ask for a replacement, the glass will also have a light sensor and that puppy cost about $300. So, the window will cost upwards of $500. If your car does require a light sensor, you will have to ask for a particular technician that can remove your old one and put it on the new one. You need to specifically request for a senior technician that can do it. The guy I talked to can do it.
About getting a glass with a logo, ask for a premium glass with logo. BMW uses over 3 different manufacturers of glass, so don't worry if the name just below the logo is someone else. It is still "OEM".

Yes, but I guess if you file a claim with your insurance, it may be the $500 deductible (if you have that deductible amount). Get some additional quotes and just tell the autoglass people that you want the logo and if the technician can replace the light sensor onto the new window. You will only order the glass with the rain sensor. With labor, the total should be in the $300-400 range.
