Peeling trims + leather

Just wanted to see if any of you Aus guys have this issue and what has been done to resolve it.

My '07 E92 has a real bad problem with peeling trims and leather as well. The passenger door (grab) handle, drivers side window switches and the hand part when you pull to close the door, the i drive surround, the steering wheel trim (m sport one), the ignition slot have all peeled and look horrible with the beige interior.

I've had my dealer replace the steering wheel (trim), the window switch trim but they have all peeled again.

As for the leather, it is flaking off only on the drivers side bolster/thigh area. Now i know leather will wear and esp on the bolster area's but i've had the bolster leather replaced when the car was only 6 months old due to flaking off and this is happening again. I always clean/condition the leather (every 2-3weeks) since it's beige and the car is never left in the sun.

It's really disappointing to see this from BMW as i own 2 Alfa Romeo's (a '00 156 and an '06 147 GTA) and both their seats/trims look perfect despite me not taking as much care with them.

I've also got a close family friend with an E90 and they have had the same issues with the trims but have been too lazy to take it in.

Any other Aus owners having the same issues as me?

I've never had problems with the trim (I've had an E46, E60 and two E90's when I lived in Sydney) but the leather always flakes off at the outer edges, which I assume is from wear and tear getting in and out of the car...

One thing I dont like about BMW leather is that it ages prematurely (creases and cracks and just the general look of it after a year or two) compared to Mercedes.

My e46 has chipping leather and the interior feels 20 years old. Its a 05 . My e90 on the other is doing ok.

Have the same problem with the steering wheel cover and the driver door piece which you grab to close the door. Bought my car used (BMW premium selection) and they refused to replace it under the used car warranty. I think they will under the new car warranty, probably reluctantly though.

Anyway, they kindly offered to replace my steering wheel trim for $250, so I decided to buy an OEM black alcantara trim piece from ECS tuning for $65USD.
For the door I just ended up peeling away the coating.. sounds ghetto, but the end result is pretty good, just looks like any old matte plastic now. 1000X better than having bits of crap peeling off everywhere.

I've had no problems at all after 2 1/2 years, but I hardly ever leave it in the sun.

Sounds odd you are having so many problems in so many areas. The fact that is has repeated on replacement parts would lead me to question if your are somehow contributing . i.e. if you are using any cleaning products on the interior then have a good hard look at what products you are using and on your car.

IMO your 2-3 week clean and condition of leather is way too often, especially if not in the sun, and is possibly doing more demage than good to the leather too. If you have clean pants it should not be that dirty that quickly in the first place.

I generally only vacuum and use a damp cloth to wipe leather down weekly and clean/condition
a couple times per year max with high end products only. As for the rest of the interior, again just water and a clean microfibre cloth does the job but I don't get it too dirty in the first place.

Good luck, what you are describing would piss me off

One this i failed to mention is that the drivers side window switch (replaced once by dealer) hasn't peeled but the wheel trim has (also replaced by the dealer before).

As for the leather, my front passenger seats has almost had the same use as the drivers but there is no sign of peeling at all. I've always been mindful of not rubbing/pressing against the bolster area when getting in/out to prevent this very thing from happening. I've only ever used the Autoglym cleaner and conditioner (separate products) or Meguiars gold class leather cleaner/conditioner on them

I've found a service bulletein for the soft touch (rubber coated) trims which is a known problem but nothing for the leather so far. I'll mention it to the dealers and see how i go, thanks for the info guys

I've had the drivers seat trims replaced by the $tealer under warranty due to the piss poor quality of the leather, both were showing excess wear after very few klms.

Yep, the passenger grab handle on our 335 coupe - the leather is peeling to reveal the plastic underneath. I'm not personally bothered by this as I think this is a poor design feature. The leather is far too thin to be of any use so will let it wear away to show the plastic trim. Other than that, no problems with my leather trim.

Guys, got the same problem on my E90 - 06 - Driver door grub where you open the door is peeling - a lot of the plastic gloss plastic coating has come off. I think this is due to previous owner putting his keys there. I might just give it a clean and leave it.
