The 325's and 330's use a ZF trans I believe all pre-lci's did..I checked on bmwvin.com for my 330xi and it's a ZF. I would love to see a tune for our trans..

Edit:

just saw the other dude's post on this thread..same thing.

It's ridiculous these trannys even need to be "flashed" to perform like they should. Has anybody tried the standard software updates and had success?

Like the software updates from the dealer that the e46 had to improve hard shifts from 1-2 and stuff like that.

Software updates come in the form of daten files. So, yes there are standard software updates and yes, they improve the shifting of the GM tranny.

Any idea which versions of the daten files affect the trans?

The ZF transmission in the first year 330/325i is first gen, the ZF transmission on the 335i is 2nd gen, slightly upgraded, this is why the TCU flash won't work, it has nothing to do with the motor if you put a 335i transmission in a 330i it would work perfectly, or switched the 335i mechatronics unit inside the transmission into a 330i.

Not that you would want to put a 335i tranny in a 330i, the gearing has been tuned for the 335i's power curve.

TCU = Transmission Control Module, inside the transmission floating in fluid, yes sounds crazy but true.

Bump. Any reason a flash couldn't be developed for the n52? If it's possible for the n54, wouldn't it just need some tweaking to work for the n52? Assuming its a 330 with ZF tranny?

There is nobody "developing" anything. All the people who claim they've "pioneered" the flash have done nothing more than google software versions online from europe. There will never be an alpina flash. WinKFP will never let you flash that kind of software on the transmissions we have unless we retrofit it. With that money you might as well go and buy a 335i

I'm confused as to why you so emphatically say it will never happen... If you have a ZF transmission, like I believe all 330s have, the only difference is a part number that makes them incompatible. And are you really saying that the Alpina flash was "looked up on google"?

Zf in 330 has a lower rated torque converter than the 335. Hence why the part numbers are different.

right, the rest of the trans is exactly the same. the TCU is likely to be exactly the same as well. the upgraded torque converter on the 335 is to hold the 300+ ft lbs of torque it has compared to the 220 on the 330.

The TCU controls the shift patterns and program, so if that is the same on the ZF transmissions, it's very likely the flash would work on a 325/330 that has the ZF trans. There is only one way to find out though.

Yes. It was looked up on google. Same thing with the e46 m3 and the e60 M5 and M6. All that needed to be done was find the ZB numbers from our friends across the pond and that's pretty much it. Euro DME reflash and CSL transmission software done. And I'm not saying it will never happen. I'm saying it will NEVER happen on a stock car with a untouched tranny

What is the Part No. of your EGS module displayed in INPA? You can access it from E90 -> Select E90 -> Functional Jobs -> <F2> Identification.
