Cracked alloys depending on tyres

Can we do a poll for people who have cracked alloys to see what tyres they were running when this happened?

I've read all that M3 Fast but their doesn't seem to be a difinitive answer as to if it's the alloys or tyres that are the problem or if it was just a faulty batch of alloys that are okay now.

It was mainly 225M rims with RFT's on BUT there were some (albeit less cases) of 230's cracking.

BMW have now pulled 225M wheels and do not supply car's with the wheels fitted any longer - they were an option on M-sport spec'd cars

I would beware of buying any car that has 225M wheels fitted. LOTS of them cracked.

Another factor seems to be the bodysyle - the E92 & E93 seems to run quite a lot of rear camber, hence increasing the inner tyre wear AND putting more pressure on the inside of the wheel rim. Couple this to a tyre with a near solid tyre wall and the state of the UK's pot-holed 'roads' then it causes issues.

I have the 225M alloys on my 2009 335i. If they did crack do BMW still manufacture these otherwise I'd have to change them all. Also, if they still do manufacture them there is nothing stopping my replacement from getting cracked.

As far as I know manufacturing has stopped although I imagine they have a stockpile of stock to replace cracked ones etc.

A lot of people had them repaired - welded and refurbished - this is often the case with the sets for sale on ebay.

Are you running Bridgestone RFT's then?

Yes I am running the Bridgestone RFT's that came on the car as it only had 3000 miles when I received it.

I had the same combo on my 'vert - rear tyres were worn on the inside within 8k miles which was annoying as there was still 5mm in the centre of the tyre!
