Brake fluid for fast road use

My brake fluid service is due soon and I'd like to change it for some decent stuff suitable for fast road, spirited b-road type driving.

I will never track the car, just use it on public roads.

Its for a 2008 E93 330i with OEM discs and Redstuff pads all around.

What are peoples recommendations?

Ta

I use Ate dot 4 in all my vehicles for regular driving and auto-x use. Has a higher than average boiling point (for performance driving). It does great in both my 328i and m3.

Got Motul RBF600 in mine, very happy with it. No brake fade and nice pedal feel...and it does last on track as well though I don't go that often at all.

Can you still buy super blue? Thought it had been discontinued?

Cheers for the responses guys I'll have a look at the ones mentiones. Higher boiling point would be an advantage as I want to avoid fade as much as possible.

I think super blue has been renamed or relaunched as "Type 200" or so I've been told by a mate on FB.

Thanks

Running Motul RBF600 here as well, have one track day on it and it held up perfectly.

Yes I think you could be correct... it's the Type 200 now. Although there is a seller selling superblue 1L for £200😂😂😂

Garage List
TYP200 and Superblue were always run side by side. Super blue was just discontinued due to the colour not being legal.

Used to be a trick to switch between the 2 so you knew when the fresh fluid was coming through.

This is correct. It was the best idea ever to see the new fluid coming through. But apparently the blue dye isn't dot 4 legal.... lol. I've got 1L left..... it'll be getting used very soon 🙂

It's recommended to use the low viscosity only versions for road use. The viscosity is about half the normal stuff. Seemingly the dsc systems only work properly with it. See here

Ah I didn't know about that. Well I'll be using it for road use only so the low viscosity may be better.

However for fast road use, is there anything that has the same viscosity but reduced fade than the oem stuff? Maybe the Type 200 mentioned above?

Yeah this has got me interested as well. If u live in a hot country then the motul or ate 200 will be ok supposedly. But if not I dare say it's best to swap the BMW fluid out for ATE or Motul if u are doing track days. But this ATE L6 low velocity looks like a good compromise. What do u think?

According to data sheets on the ATE L6 low velocity, it is DOT4 and is defo LV.... and has a better wet and dry temperature performance compared to the DOT 4 BMW fluid. 🙂

Ah nice 1. This looks to be a good shout . Low viscosity as well....with better performance temperature handling than the ATE L6. Cheers bro. 🙂

Interesting regarding the difference in viscosities of fluid options. I personally cant say I've noticed the 'mushy' feeling of rbf600/normal viscosity fluids in cold temps at all, in fact I thought it was noticeably better than the standard fluid. When it was recently wet and cold (when isn't it in Wales!) over winter I found the pedal was still great and solid so have had no problems, this was in minus temps btw. When I went round the Evo triangle for a hoon it was equally fine. I was running that fluid and EBC yellowstuff at the time.

I don't think you can go wrong with any of the options mentioned above to be honest.
For me, I just chose one that was a good price, had plenty of feedback from forum members and had a higher boiling point.
I have driven with it through winter, summer and track days in both hot and cold climates now so I'm happy it covers all of my bases.
