It is too easy... it is more difficult on my truck. Stupid filters that are on the bottom of the truck sucks. Gets oil all over

Hey I bought a mightyvac hand pump to bleed brakes if anyone wants to give it a shot. It is pretty simple but you have to be able to take your wheels off or get under the car. I did my truck and jesse's car is next.

Seriously, I'm surprised how easy it really is. Thanks again for the help man. Note to the forum, if you're paying to have your oil changed, you're paying too much!

Will do. I just need to pick up a few tools that Michael had. My oil and filter were nasty. From now on I'm doing it every 5k like Chad said.

I got my brakes changed and fluid changed like a month ago right before my maintenance plan expired haha. Maybe sometime though!

I forgot to post this earlier but think it might be relevant to the topic.

I did my first oil change at 7,300 miles. This was the factory-fill Castrol and I was concerned about the life of the oil, especially with the computer reporting I had another 6,000 miles to the next change. I sent this sample off to Blackstone and paid extra for the TBN analysis to try and determine if the additive package in the BMW oil was really good for 15,000 mi OCIs.

Aside from some extra fuel from what I suspect was a small leak at the HPFP, everything looked good. The fuel smell went away a while back and the Blackstone report seems to hint that 10,000 mile OCIs are just fine for the German Castrol.

Tischer sells the BMW oil change kit for $80 shipped. Even if that price sounds a little steep, you could potentially double the amount of time between changes by sticking to the German Castrol.

I don't know how long the Mobil1 0W40 oil lasts in our cars, but it seems to be the only widely-available oil that meets BMW LL-01 specs. I know I couldn't count for much more than 5,000 miles on their 5W30 in LSX engines since it tends to shear down so quickly.

Thanks for the info Roger. I got my first oil change at 10K and was planning on going to a 7500 mile interval.

I think 7500mi intervals are good for our tuned cars and it allows BMW to pick up the tab on every other oil change. I was surprised to see how long the additives last in the BMW Castrol oil, considering how hard and hot our cars run.

Has anyone had to add oil between changes? I know it's a common thing on the ///M cars but the N54 doesn't seem to burn oil--it just spits it through the PCV.

I'm curious what the factory intercooler looks like when it comes off. I'll install a BSH catch can if it looks like the intercooler or charge pipe is starting to collect oil.

I bought a bunch of filters from FS: for $5. Oil was $6.50/qt at Classic when I got it yesterday. I was being cheap and didn't want to pay the extra $1.50 for Mobile 1 since it's not on sale right now. Guess I can just stick to the Castrol!

I had to once. It was at around 9K I think. The BC told me to add a quart, so I did.

I've had to add oil 2 twice in the last 20k miles. I'm not overly concerned but it makes me pay a little more attention to consumption.

As for the Mobil 1 0w40. I've used that oil for over 100k miles in my S4 as well as many other S4 owners. Most that did the blackstone analysis, saw that 7,500 was close to the limit. I think one guy did try around 8,000 miles it was beginnning to show signs that it was too long. I changed after 4000-5000 miles and never had a peep out of that motor due to wear. I'd say in this car, with average aggressive driving, 5000 miles should be a problem. I was more than average aggressive 2 to 3 nights a week for 3-4 yrs.

I have been going to Moritz in Arlington for scheduled service, up to the point when my warranty expired (July of last year). I'm now wondering what dealer might be the best to take care of issues as the one I described above so basically I'd like to hear from you if you like your dealer or not and why... I'm looking for an honest place that's not going to charge me an arm and a leg for resetting codes and call it a "fix" ..

Thanks!
just a quick update on the fixes above. It was the throttle body. THankfully the fix fell under CPO warranty and only had to pay $50 for a $650 repair . The bad news was, my Kensington Liquidaux kit was taken out of my car. I left a message to my SA and he never returned the call so I guess they don't care much for petty theft going on at their dealership. I'm careful to take valuables out of the car but an ipod cable... really? anyway, whoever did it felt he needed to bother to even unstrap the remote off the steering wheel. That feels like pretty low for a BMW dealership.

What dealership was this?

For those doing oil changes...after burning my finger on the hot oil and making a small mess on my garage floor taking out the drain bolt, I looked into a few options and came upon the Fumoto Oil Drain Valve. Looks like it's pretty popular online, especially with some of the VW folks. Some cars have the drain bolt facing down and so I read some reviews where they bottomed out and knocked the drain loose. Our cars have it on the side, so we should be fine. There are various reviews with people using them for years and on all different cars and they swear by them.

Pics - http://www.billswebspace.com/bmw335.htm

There's 2 versions, 1 with nipple and 1 without. Nipple lets you attach a hose. For our cars we also need the extension. I found a 10% off coupon online. I'm going to order one for my car and shipping is $5 plus $1 for each additional one. If anyone want's to split shipping w/ me let me know!

Price after Discounts: Normal - $26.95 Nipple - $29.65
Shipping: $5 for first, +$1 after

Discount Code is YM4.

Lemme know!
