I see this WAY TOO OFTEN

May I ask what is the point of doing this? I just don't understand. You see one or two maybe even three here and their but damn now it's becoming all too common. If you cannot afford a M car than don't bother slapping a M logo onto the car especially the near. M package does NOT make it a M car. Reason behind this I was at the light and this guy thought he was hot shit in a X5 not a bad looking car but seriously with a M logo? It didn't even have a M package. Then we get to the light I looked over and all I can do is shake my head and look away. As the light turned green he floored it I did not even bother it's raining and sure would've been a waste of time but I would've loved to see his face once I passed him and ask him at the next light damn nice " M " car. Must be REALLY fast uh. Any you guys experience this behavior!? I'm sure it has been threads and discussions about this but what I don't get is why take off in a want to be M as if it was a M?

First, I agree with you 100% on this, as most of us on this forum do. However, take note of the body colored moldings and fender extensions on the X5 "M". These two things designate that, 1. His car DOES in fact have the M-Sport Package or M-Sport Line (whatever they call it these days) and 2. The fender extensions on the X5 usually designate the V8 big daddy engine. Both of which can easily be added on at a dealer or sketchy body shop however from context clues, thats what I got. His X5 probably does haul ass with that V8 but you're right, IT IS NOT AN M CAR!

Ha ha precisely. If they want to stick Ferrari badges on, fine. If it makes them happy so be it. I just don't care either. they probably love //M and this is aspirational. Nothing wrong with that. Most people don't even know the difference and those who know won't get fooled, in the end it is pointless exercise.

The other day I had someone ask me about my new Range Rover Sport: "wow nice looking Explorer bro." I could have been upset sure, maybe insulted, or whatever. After all I paid $114K for the car and there is nothing explorer about that. I was amused and laughed it off. That's best thing you can do is laugh at the silly stuff because you can't stop idiots from being idiots. At the end of the day whether they know it or not, it really doesn't matter.

The other day I had my dry cleaner lady tell me what a misguided waste of money buying that car is and If it were her she'd buy a house. She even told me to read a chapter of proverbs a day so I may gain wisdom. I said to her it was her opinion and I have mine, and I do have a house and don't want a house but want the car. They are both material things, and just wants so I don't see anything wrong with it. She is judging me with her standards, and guess what? I have mine too and not judging her with them. The problem is everyone wants to apply their standards and judge others with them. When I was a kid I'd slap all kinds of stickers on my toy. Ferrari, Lancia whatever... it didn't make it so, but I still imagined it as one. In my own immature kid's mind I could see a direct connection between it and real thing. Mine was just smaller but same thing you see. Maybe these people are not past that stage.

Also doesn't help that m sport trims are throwing around the badges on newer gen now...Lexus is doing so with their F sport trims too now so it's almost all losing its original unique value.

I can give a shit less what people put on their car because at the end of the day it's their personal preference but I want to know the logic behind it that's all lol like what says hmm I think I need a M badge to put on my car but the reason behind this was the way he acted I was a bit confused.
