Schomp question re: tunes

I have a JB stage 2 on my N55 and have set up a service appointment for Tuesday. Do I need to take it out or can I get away with leaving it on?

has anyone tried to leave it on?

I have a side question...if you take the tune off can it be detected that it had a tune on it at one time?

Depends on what you are getting done...oil change you can leave it on, but anything like hpfp replace, injectors, etc. i would definitely take it off if I were you.

Id take it out either way, just to be safe. No reason to void a warranty. And yes, they can detect it even with it off if you threw a shadow code. Search "BT Cable" or "Bavarian Technic Cable" and purchase one. It hooks up and clears codes, its a diagnostic tool that really anyone should have especially once you are out of warranty. You can reset all the fancy gadgets on your idrive and such with it, ie, oil mileage and range and brakes and all that stuff.

No, that is a seperate and different cable I believe. Unless I am behind on the times and am just lacking the appropriate software, which could be the case for all I know. Ill have to check.

+1,000,000! Take it from me, I know! Shomp actually questioned me about having a JB3 on my car when it went in for HPFP, and clutch service. I took the tune off of the car before it went in and it didnt leave any codes so they couldnt prove anything and had to honer my warranty. I actually believe that they came on e90post and looked me up so be careful.

I would say just take it out no matter what. Its not that hard and you never know what those guys will find or want to update while your car is there; so you might end up having more stuff done then you were expecting.

Oh and another thing, after they questioned me about the tune, they put blue paint markers on the edges of the ECU and the Code reader interface by the driver side kicker panel to see if I was messing with it. So just watch out, they will do that shit. I almost didnt catch it when I was going to re-install my tune. Luckily I did ;-)

OP if you want to be safe and you are still under warranty, take it off. End of story.

Or leave it on to roll the dice

Thanks everyone. I guess I'll take it off. Crap.

I've got the JB stage 2 for the N55 which isn't as easy to take off. There is wire splicing involved and all that has to be undone.

I know I'm OK with codes because it's got an auto clear code function.

Wow, that is why I hate stealers. So the question is, who in the Denver/Boulder/Ft Collins area is mod friendly? If you are going to mod while in warranty, you takes your chances.

You are shitting me. What a bunch of douchebags.

Anyone have an aftermarket FMIC still on when they went in and got flagged for it? I would like to replace mine with a more efficient one which would improve reliability and lower thermal stresses but I am afraid they'd void my warranty out of sheer arrogance and stupidity. And the fact that they are all child molesters, necrophiliacs, and cannibals.

I've never taken any of my mods off. I've gone to all 3 major dealers for different kind of service work. Maybe I'm just one lucky guy .
