Quickest and Fastest 6MT n54's

Like the title says. Who has the current record? I know all the 6AT's have all the dragtime.com records but how about manual's??? Do 6mt guys just don't go out to the strip as often as 6at guys?
I'm strongly considering an 2010 e92 6mt but if a 6at with the same mods are considerably faster, I don't know if I should.
I'll probably take it to the strip a few times so I do want an advantage if there is one

I believe Shiv holds at least the fastest record.....not sure though.

if you like to drive a manual, then get it. Who cares if you can launch a little better at the drag strip. Drag racing is likely .001% of your cars total use.

I enjoy rowing the gears myself tremendously......even if i'm just cruising to Quizno's or something mundane. My pickup truck is an auto....my car isn't and won't be.

MT is faster, but auto is easier to go fast. MT is more fun too.

BMW's official website gives a MT 0.2 seconds faster to 60. And you can shave another 0.6 off the "official" time if you are willing to just drop the clutch at 4000rpm. (I'm not)

Not that it really matters for normal driving, but the 6MT is harder to launch than the 6AT. That's about it. If you shift well, you will keep up with a 6AT. But if drag racing/ETs is your thing, you'll be best served with a 6AT. Not as much fun though, IMHO.

Im pretty sure this has been argued many times, but the understanding is that the auto is faster. But if you enjoy driving a manual, then you shouldnt care about a few tenths of a second at the track. If your that concerned about the track times, get a track car.

I think that Shiv has the fastest mt. Or the highest trap. I can't remember. Either way he has a fast mt.

+1000 Re: how much more fun to drive manuals are.

I'm not sure why people are putting so much credit into how fast a BMW can go in a straight line. It's a drivers car, drag cars are tubbed and are really just engines on wheels. BMWs are built to enjoy driving (3'ers anyway), and a 6MT just makes it even more enjoyable (IMO). So go for the MT

I'm surprised no one pointed out the fact that we haven't really seen anyone (other than shiv?) go to the track with the new bogfix maps yet which will make the 6MTs a little better ET and mph. Previously the non-stock 6MTs were slowed some unquantified amount by the computer closing the throttle after shifts.

Now that this has been addressed by the major tuners (Procede, Juicebox and I think CPE; flashes???), it will be interesting to see how the 6MTs fare vs the 6ATs.

Stock vs stock I don't think there's an appreciable difference assuming the 6MTs take out the ridiculous CDV and have a decent driver not granny-shifting.

BobVader in his modded 6MT 335xi ran 11.9x on race gas (pre-bogfix) and the fastest modded 6AT 335xi ran about the same. I think those are quickest 335XIs at the moment: http://www.dragtimes.com/BMW--335xi-Drag-Racing.html. The 335XIs are a good example IMO as they take the traction variable out of the mix. The 335is have a hard time launching with either trans and that affects ET quite a bit. YMMV.
