6FL retrofit?

So the story goes that I got a great deal on a floor car 2010 325 iDrive, but they didn't order the 6FL option. Is there any way to regain the lossless and iPod functionality?? Maybe get the 6FL parts and install them?

Many thanks!!

I believe there's a 6FL retrofit kit in Europe, but it's not available in the US. Not sure about Mexico. There's also a separate iPod integration kit, but it's not the same as 6FL.

6FL is also available in Canada, don't understand why not in the U.S.

Factory 6FL is available in every country. The question here is whether it can be retrofitted after the fact.

Thanks everyone.

So the 6FL should be available locally, I will go ahead and look for it.

The thing now is if it can be retroffited?? Will it require programming the computer or just plug and play?

Thanks again.

Print this, take it to your dealer and ask them if they have it: http://www.zen104526.zen.co.uk/320d/...trofit%201.pdf

6FL can definitely be retrofitted. I obtained the parts, MULF-HI, USB hub and wiring harness from a salvaged 2008-335i and installed them successfully in my E92. Worked first time

If you can fit the parts yourself you just need to take your car in to have the CCC coded.

Check under your TCU (located under the floormat in your trunk) and see if you have another rectangular box bolted underneath the frame, it should have a label on it that says "MULF2 - HIGH BASIS" or similar. If you do you probably also have the USB hub in the drivers footwell. If that is the case you only need harness 'A' and the USB/AUX adapter 'B' from the .pdf posted by Technic.

Can you post photos? I'm interested in adding this to my 07 e90 if possible.

I am positive I have it since my car has de 644 option PREP. FOR. MOB. PH. BLUET. INTERF. and the MULF2 should come with it.

I do have a USB port in the front of the car, but I would like to find out if I have the USB HUB. In order to do so I must take out the driver's seat right??

Lets hope I do have that USB stuff and then I would just need the parts you are listing

The MULF is in the trunk, as shown in the pdf document linked.

What does the 6FL provide that the standard dealer installed version does not (aside from being located in the center arm rest as opposed to glove box)?

There is no dealer installed USB port. There is a dealer installed IPOD control option, but that isn't as flexible as a USB port.

Being positive may not get you very far, if you can't find the MULF-HI then there is no point taking the drivers seat out.

Having prep for MOB. PH. BLUET. INTERF is no guarantee that you have a MULF-HI in your car.

"I didn't"

Some Pics

TCU - To the best of my knowledge installed as standard on all US cars, provides Phone and Bluetooth prep etc

Under the TCU bracket you might see another unit. The MULF-HI is needed for 6FL. There is also a "MULF-LOW" installed in some cars which would be in the same place.

If you do not have the MULF-HI and you need 6FL you will have to swop the unit out.

*** check the label ***

NOTE - There is no guarantee that you have anything under the TCU

Yep, I knew that - brain just wasn't fully engaged.

PREP means cables are run - module i.e TCU is absent
