So my rear brakes are due soon, and BMW is quoting me about 750.. So I will be buying all the parts and finding a shop to do it. Few questions:

1) where is the best place to buy the cheapest rear brake parts? (Everything I need except labor obviously)

2) should I stick with OEM rotors and OEM brake pads? Any consensus on ceramic vs OEM pads? Should I switch to ceramic for less brake dust?

3) the squeaking at low speeds...... Has it been decided that the cause is the brake sensor? What should I tell the shop so that my rear brakes don't squeak anymore when taking off???

4) fair price for rear brake job, assuming I supply all parts??

Im usually all for DIY but with brakes on my DD I didn't have the luxury of a day or two to work on them. I just did my rears yesterday at the stealer and found that the reputable independents are just $50-60 per axle cheaper. Fluid flush was the same at $140.

Pit them against each other and strike your best deal. The Indy also doesn't have a rental car for me and that made it ultra convenient.

If you just need to replace the pads and the sensor, DIY is not much more difficult than an oil and filter change. OEM pads and a sensor will run just over $100 from Tischer.

I think the rotors need to be replaced too. I'm planning on buying the parts and taking it to a shop for just the labor... Should be considerable cheaper than 750 (remember this is just for rear brakes, not front and rear)

I need to do mine soon too. If your handy at all brakes are super easy. I would get HAWK pads very low dust great stopping power.

365 from tischer for the rear kit, pads rotors, sensor all OEM. Not bad at all

I put them on all my bmw's great grabbing power, no fade and barley any dust. They claim better stopping power than oem also. Just make sure you follow the directions on the box for bedding them in. Very simple. I have them on the front of my 335 now, front wheels super clean, rears are gross after a week. Dont go back to OEM pads they suck

Not sure what squeaking problem you are talking about..As long as you follow the bedding process and use the lube that comes in the box the pads will be quiet. Initial bite is a bit harder IMO.

Ive been running HPS fronts and oem rears for the last 15,000 miles. No issues.

I just had my rear brakes replaced (pads, rotors & sensors) for ~464 @ West German in Ft. Washington PA; just outside of Philly. Mine is a 328xi so the pricing might be a bit more for a 335 but thought that was a decent deal for parts & install. They gave me a car too (X1), PM me & I can connect w/ my service advisor. My OEM pads lasted from 54K when i bought it CPO to ~84K

Hmm looks like ill be doing OEM rotors with hps pads... And I'll find a local shop if I don't get a chance for a DIY

Fair labor charge is hard to determine. I would not take it to a Midas,Firestone, Sears, Goodyear or any type of a joke place like that. I'm not saying they are bad techs but sometimes you get young techs etc. Most shops will get angry that you bring your own parts and jack up the price. A good tech can have those brakes changed in under an hour (as long as the ebrakes release the rotors easily). Make sure you have them do the bedding info on the box. I don't trust anyone enough thats why I do it myself. Im sure you can find a forum member who will help you do them if you never have before. Good reason to buy some tools instead of using that money to pay someone else.

When it came time to do my brakes, I tried to weigh my options between performance, price, dusting, and noise.

Believe it or not, this is very difficult to do. There is no golden setup that has the best of all worlds.

For my rear brakes, I went with this setup:

Rotors: Centric Premium with EZ-Coating

The rear brakes are a smaller fraction of stopping performance, however, I found that the Centric Premium rotors offered performance that was at least as good as OEM and I found the price suitable.

Pads: Hawk HPS

These pads dust FAR FAR less than the OEM ones I had, are more silent than the lambs, and offer the same braking performance as OEM at a good price.

All in all, pedal feel improved and braking performance improved after the change, no regrets. This is the preferred setup I would continue running.

My rear set up total was $146.00 this includes rotors, pads, and sensor. No labor cost since I did it myself. No dust and performace is good.

Any advantage to cross drilled centric rotors as opposed to OEM rotors? Seems like a great price
