Crankshaft pulley replacement

This is my crankshaft pulley after 162,000 miles and 17 years. Is it time to replace?

I was reading/ watching the replacement procedures, and there seems to be three approaches
  1. hold the crankshaft with a breaker bar and remove the bolts like here
  2. Use a flywheel locking thing (is it a pin? Is it a flywheel locking tool?) to hold the crankshaft
  3. Use a boroscope and an Allen key to hold it. (And a belt stretch tool? Why not just release the belt tensioner to remove the belt? Do)

The first method seems way way easier, so why do people do it the other way?

Jackie
