Pure speculation on his part...

If BMW wanted to actually block tunes, they wouldn't do it through a software upgrade that 99% of tune users aren't going to get.

yikes, so their labor rate is $310 an hour based on 45 minutes for the install. wow, more than some lawyers and accountants. good gig for them.

I have been e-mailing the internet sales guy at Irvine BMW and he has no clue what this is. I even sent him links to the original press release back in August, now this with the part numbers and hes still clueless. Frustrating. Time to change dealerships yet again though they keep getting farther and farther from home O__o

Yea, I thought about using them, but how do you deal with your dealer since they would be essentially providing the flash, wouldn't they? just say hey, i bought it from BMW and now you have to flash it at the labor cost?

edit- my local dealer is offering 15% off performance parts through 9/30/11, so even after tax, that's cheaper than Tischer. South Bay BMW for those wondering. Don't know their labor rate though.

My dealership quoted me at $715 for labor ONLY for the power kit version 1!!! I asked him twice just to be sure that he meant labor only. They are insane!!

I think most of these dealers aren't realizing the difference between the new stage 1 and what was the original stage 2

DUDE, just inform them it is 1 hour of labor. Do they charge $715 for 1 hour of labor?

People who work at BMW/car dealerships are MORONS. You need to learn them, it's not that hard.

Has anyone gotten confirmation yet as to wether or not this can be installed on a non sport model 335?
My local dealer is still only quoting the original Stage 2 Kit (at $2400 + install).

He mentioned that they had installed version 2 on a 135i a couple of weeks ago and it took them 16 hours and cost the 135i owner more than $2k. I told him that I wanted version 1 and he didn't seem to know what I was talking about and said that he assumed it would be about half the labor time. I told him that he didn't sound too sure about it and I asked him to look into it and call me back. A couple of hours later he did with the quote of $715.

I'll do like you said and talk to him again. I may get this done if they charge around $150 for labor.

I contacted BMW of Albany (Georgia) yesterday via email for a quote for installation on my 2009 335i. The parts manager responded this morning by saying 10 % off of parts and labor with my BMW CCA discount. He also said that i would be charge for 3 hours of labor but that it can take anywhere from 1.5 hours to 4 hours "depending on circumstances" (He didn't give me an actual number and I don't know what their labor rate is).

I feel like this is way off and that they are confusing the software only install with the hardware / software install and I have emailed him for clarification.

I believe the reason that so many people are getting the run around on Labour quotes is due to the fact that the dealers cannot guarantee an exact amount of time up front for the flash. I spoke with my SA yesterday, and he assured me that if the car was fully up to date in terms of software/firmware updates (for all the installed modules in the car), then this update goes on very quickly without issues, 45mins typically.

The problem is that most people's cars are not fully up to date, and then this procedure takes much longer to perform and can even fail if a module which is out of date does not accept the software flash successfully the first time around and then requires a 2nd go at it.

I paid $1,500 + install (8.5 hours) for hardware and software ppk 2 months ago . I'm glad I got it installed, but in retrospect it was a very poor financial decision . Preparing flame suit...

I had the complete kit installed beginning of June. It took them around 10 hours.
The software part alone was more than 3 hours. Whoever says 45 minutes has no idea.
