The inside of the terminal from the car's cables need cleaning. Where they contact the posts. Then wiggle them good and try starting.

So does your car start and drive or not? I'm guessing not since you said everything shuts off.

Make sure your alternator is good. Remember to have the battery registered too.

If you put it on battery back up you blew a fuse

If you put it on battery back up you blew a fuse

This is a known problem with battery back up to the car while changing a battery or
you didn't plug everything in on top of the battery distribution block
back in the same place.

That row or slots for the cables on top has slots that are not populated
with connecting pins hence if you plug into those you won't get a connection.
This was discovered on the stereo board.

there are 4 hot lines that go from the top of that battery distribution block forward I believe check those for power see the above link.

The fuses that go to the dash cluster

The fuses that go to the dash cluster are behind the glove box
there is a fuse chart there to .
Also if you look at that link I provided it describes the electrical system.
And tells you which fuse goes to the instrument cluster.
There are three or 4 separate lines for +12 that go foward.
I believe the cable on the side closest to the inside of the trunk(on top of the battery power distribution block) is the one that powers the entire dash and interior electronics you should check that to make sure its connected.

http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=626549

This is for a 530 maybe a different fuse .
If it comes alive with this remember you will get a few error messages
till you drive it.

I hate the electronics of these cars.. such a PITA, what happened to the good old days where you could just install a car battery yourself and not spend $500 at the stealership.

Yea, it was weird when I put the new battery in my dome lights worked again. When I came home from work yesterday they wouldn't work again. So I checked my fuses swore a bit when they were good than I was like well it can't hurt so I disconnected it. Really was like the weirdest thing
