I had my eye on an Afe system for a while. Recently saw one on Amazon warehouse deals for significant savings off retail, so I pulled the trigger. Someone probably had returned it, because of the surging issue. haha.

I used a liquid gasket creator from the auto parts store. $3.49. worked well also.

Question Newbie question on AFE intake fix...

Hi - This is my first post - I'm contemplating getting an AFE intake, but saw all of this discussion and wondered whether this applies to the closed box system as well as the open, or only the open...

Any clarification really appreciated.

Thanks.

^ This spacer is designed to fix the MAF sensor mount on the original open AFE intake.

The one you have posted is the newer sealed AFE intake design. There are some complaints that the sealed intake also has MAF issues, but I don't know that the same spacer will fix the sealed AFE design

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...e+engine+light

The sealed intake has proven to have good power gains but personally I would try to avoid AFE with their track record on N52 engines. I would think a eurobox with a K&N round filter will give you the same gains (although I haven't seen a dyno) without risk of MAF issues. Only problem is Eurbox is quiet. AFE for all their problems at least has awesome sound.

AFE Sealed intake install....

Just finished installing the AFE Sealed Box intake on my 328 xi wagon... I have to say -- instructions were completely useless, I would have saved time if I had NOT tried to follow the directions.

Second -- quality in terms of fit just SUCKS. This should have taken an hour tops to install -- instead it took me 2 1/2 hours -- primarily because it was VERY difficult to get the pieces to fit together.

No opinions as of yet as to whether it was worthwhile -- but I don't think I will be buying AFE products in the future.

Have others had the same experience?

Lol ya the AFE intake wouldnt fit my car because the convertible has extra bars for structural reinforcement. I had to saw off a bit of the metal heat shield. Not a big deal for me cuz my friend did the install for me at the shop.

But ya if I was trying to do this at home I probably wouldn't be too impressed either. Since it clearly says its fits all e90-e93.

Ah well its done now. Enjoy the extra bit of power. And most importantly enjoy the sound

I made my from hard rubber. There are no codes but I would rather have better made spacer if I can get one.

I'm running the oiled filter CAI and have had no issues and my MAF doesn't look dirty. Just cleaned it yesterday after last week's trip to Arizona, quite a nasty amount of build up on the filter. I've re-oiled the filter three times since first installing it back in 2013. Cleaned the MAF sensor yesterday with CRC MAF sensor cleaner from Autozone and got no CEL. Haven't filled up the tank yet to see if I recovered any lost fuel economy since my commutes are longer in duration than they were last year.
