Coding with engine running?
Hello, I've been coding the past few times with my car running, and everytime the code writes to the module and it restarts all the lights flicker and turns back on. I haven't found this to be a problem, but I'm kind of worried about potential problems? I've read a lot about people coding with battery chargers but why do that when you can just keep the ignition on and have the alternator charge the battery?
Just wondering if there's any risks or problems with coding with the engine running. Haven't had a problem so far, but would like to know before I keep playing around with the codes. Thanks! |

You need a solid power supply, like a running engine. If the power dips during coding, you're not gonna to have a good time.

Any specific modules you shouldn't code with the engine running? DME for example?
How about programming with winkfp. Can it also be done with engine running? I heard of one module that must be programmed with key completely out. But other modules ok with engine on? |

So here's another noob question; with NCSExpert the first ECU from the dropdown list is CAS, FRM, and NFRM. I followed the guide which told me to only ever go into CAS, but that guide was coding the CAS for the digital speed. I have coded my FRM going through CAS (selecting ECU), then next drop down list selecting FRM (Process ECU I believe?). Now if I wanted to code FRM am I doing the right thing by first going into CAS then FRM? And do the other options when you first start up NCSExpert with CAS, FRM, and NFRM do anything?
I don't have any power jumping issues.. I don't think. I did try to code in the brake force lighting thing in the FRM that causes the rear fog to go on under heavy braking but that was always interrupted by an error and I could never get it to work. |

The first read where you usually select cas is just reading the vo and the different modules it can interact with. Doesn't matter which you select as long as you read those correctly
