Buying a "new" 2007 335i?

We found a new 335i sedan with an M-tech package on the car. They are willing to give it to me at invoice.

The catch is that it is a 2007 and has 13 miles. While I am okay with the 13 miles, is there a negative way that the 2007 would effect the pricing of the vehicle?

For example, if I say that it is a 2007, it is assumed that it is a 1 year old vehicle.

Opinions?

buying or leasing?

if you are buying it, then yes, you would have to live with the fact that the car has already depreciated. in addition, make sure that the car was never reported to BMW NA as a sold unit. if this was already reported, the warranty started the day the car was reported...not fair to you. also, if it was reported, you can get them to sell it to you under invoice since they already got the added value" money for it.

if you are leasing it, the residual is pretty good on a 2 year lease.

This would be a purchase.

Also, the car has never been titled. This particular dealer has a few 2007's in stock.

How much under invoice would it make the 07 be worth it?

In a year, say you put 12,000 miles on it. It's now March 2009. Would you rather buy a 2008 335i with 12K miles, or a 2007 335i with 12K miles? The 2007 model, even with the same mileage, is worth thousands less. So, yes - there's a significant impact to resale value.

Depending on when in 2007 it was built, it may lack some of the mid year (March) production changeovers.

Offhand I recall the following changes:
-2 more steering wheel buttons added?
-6 touch sensitive programmable dashboard buttons
-Newer design fuelpumps (unverified)

There may be more....do a search. That said, these differences could theoretically make a difference in value.

But he's talking about 13 miles here.

Even with your example, you have to consider that the 08 has been driven much more frequently while the 07 with equal miles is likely someone's weekend car.

You shouldn't pay invoice. You should check KBB or NADA (which ever your region uses) and see what a Used 2007 would be worth. I understand it is not used but the depreciation has occured nonetheless. Also, even though it is not "titled" I'm willing to bet that slalomfever is right and the car has been reported sold to BMWNA, in which case the warranty is triggered and you'll end up getting less.

a car can be reported to BMW NA even if it has never been titled. I would go the extra mile and do your "due diligence" especially knowing that this is a purchase and not a lease.

We have sold "reported" cars for $1000 under invoice. for resale value purposes, remember that a trade-in for a 2007 is worth about 4k-5k under dealer invoice.

To be clear, I'm saying in March 2009 -- a year from now -- he may have put around 12K miles on it.

Alternatively, he could get a 2008 model now, and have the same 12K miles on it a year from now.

The 2008 will be worth thousands of dollars more, with the same mileage and purchased brand new at the same time. That's what I was trying to say.

Depreciation is approx $500 mo. So you are already down 6K (assuming you sell it yourself a week later). Now a dealer offers warranty and stuff so it is worth about 4 or 5K off sticker IMO.

Even so, BMW is offering 3.9% on 08 models.

I see no reason to go for that 07 left over then unless they went 3k under invoice.

Which wouldnt happen and buying a new 08 seems to be the better either way.
