car starter problems

i pressed the start button once, car starter engages, but only halfway, car does not start. i wait 5 seconds and press the start button again, and the engine starts, everything is fine. could be starter is going bad? wiring? or battery?

Probably bad connection. There's a special tool. The external brush cleans cable clamps and internal brush cleans terminal posts. But you could use a small wire brush also.

Check the battery first.

Check the battery first.
You could try putting a full charge on it and see
if the symptoms change.
