Free Scheduled Maintenance for Canada Car in the US.
I couldn't find the answer regarding Free Scheduled Maintenance for a canadian BMW car in US. Say i go to the states for a 6 month period and i need to get a oil change done according to my car, will i have to pay? If i do pay can i get reimbursed by BMW Canada when i'm back? Thanks

I do this all the time since I service my Canadian car in Detroit. You need to pay first. Keep a copy of the invoice and submit it back to your Canadian Dealer's Service department. BMW Canada will send you back a cheque within a few weeks to reimburse you.

Nice, just curious as to why you take it to Detoit for service as opposed to doing it locally?

Only one local dealer where I live selling MB, Land Rover, Jag, BMW, Lincoln...Monopolies never do well on the service side. My service advisor pointed out one car last week while I was there that came 150km because of the poor service from our local dealer.
Also, the Detroit dealer is also a Dinan dealer who just flashed my 535xiT. |

Didn't want to name the dealer....but you're on the right track. It's amazing what a little competition does. Sharpens up the service. I also have a US CPO spec car that I brought back into Canada. Always well taken care of with maintenance and warranty issues. They even allow me to drop ship tires/wheels.

I have an engine light and i'm in the states currently. I'm going to take it to a nearby dealer to get it checked out. I have warranty until June 2011 and CPO June 2013. So I just pay upfront and get reimbursed when i'm back?

Hey guys, I'm currently in the states and my engine light came on for my gas cap or gas cap seal and i'm taking it to St. Louis BMW to get it fixed. I still have Canadian warranty and CPO on my car, do i just pay upfront and mail BMW Canada the invoice?

Best to call BMW Canada before you go in for service. Better to know before hand, and not get screwed after.

Here’s a question for Canadians who have imported US cars ….
Can a Canadian plated car (that passed RIV inspection) be brought back to a US dealer to have is free maintenance service performed? I know Canadian dealers will not honour this, but could it be done for free in the US?

^^Short answer..YES.
If the car initially was registered as a US car, it then has the US maintenance plan and a US/Canada Warranty Plan. It does not matter if it was imported into Canada and has Canadian plates. My car was brought into Canada from the US and never had any issues with getting maintenance done in the USA for free. |

I just had my engine light fixed that threw off error code P0456, it turned out to be the Mass Air Flow, very expensive part. Paid over $500 at St. Louis BMW, can i just bring the receipt back and give it to my local bmw dealer for reimbursement? I have the factory warranty until june 2011 and CPO june 2013. PS: It's a canadian car.

Out of curiosity, which dealer in Detroit area do you take the car to? I have Canadian 323i and live in the Windsor area, but I don't want to take the car to Overseas for service. I work in Michigan so it would be very convenient to service it in the Detroit area . The closest dealership to my work is Erhard BMW in Farmington Hills.
