Auto box question

So.

I have a 330d auto and have noticed the last day or two it doesn't want to change gear as early or as smoothly . Could this just be a characteristic of the box in the heat?

Slightly worried newbie

What year and mileage is your car?
Have you still got dpf in place?
Has the gearbox oil ever been changed?

Mistryn: How does the dpf affect the gearbox? (Mines having a gearbox fluid/filter change in a week or so...finally!)

06 115k miles. DPF still in place.

Just read the throttle reset thread and people are describing exactly what I have.

Thank you very much for pointing me in this direction!

If the DPF's blocked it may create a code the ECU will read and act upon it it may limit power/torque for instance DPF's can/do play up and can create issues elsewhere as the gearbox and engine ECU's are constantly working together there's potential for various things to happen if the DPF's blocked (each car and case we see are slightly different)so you can never be sure, we can request via diagnostic a forced re gen(popular at the moment with VW's Audi's usually DPF pressure sensor on these and they do create DSG Auto and CVT safe mode issues)and carrying out a forced re gen can help but with the DPF having a usable age of 100.000 moles when we see faults with them we usually see as part if the reported fault that the DPF has reached age limit or limitation or words to that effect. So a re gen can/can't work out but it'll in some cases cause certain gear related issues.

But on the OP's question worth having a look at the underside covers off to see if the gearbox sumps weeping(sweating fluid) if it is(either from the plug or sump or both) then by performing a sump and fluid change then re setting bus diagnostic the parameters will make a real difference re setting the throttle adaptations again worth while then you basically carry out a re learn procedure and get the gearbox to learn how to drive as all parameters are re set the car will learn your driving style from scratch. It'll take a good half an hour of driving to get this about right. Start slowly and build things up in D then introduce changes in DS the M mode and it'll all come together very nicely.

I did the throttle reset and it has worked an absolute treat. I will get the gearbox oil changed anyway, although i did think these were sealed for life these boxes.

I'm not sure if this applies but I'm pretty sure when the dpf goes into regeneration it holds the gears for longer to create more heat (or something like that) to help burn off the soot etc from the dpf filter.

Don't quote me on that but I'm sure iv read it somewhere on the audi forums when a girl I know had the same issue in an a1.
